It is anticipated that this show will prove to be the finest and most representative collection of photographic art ever presented in Australia. Entries have come from twenty-one different countries, whereas previously the largest number of overseas countries sending photographs to any Australian salon was fifteen.

The standard of the pictures has greatly impressed the judges, Mr. Ainslie Roberts ARPS, APSA, and Mr. K. P. Phillips ARPS, both of Adelaide, and Mr. A. Dickinson FRPS, of Melbourne.

The judging has now been completed and about 195 of the 805 entries have been selected for display in the upstairs foyer of the Centennial Hall, which is being prepared as a salon to be open during the two months of the exhibition. Incidentally, of the 805 prints received, only 136 were Australian.

Mr. J. Tomlinson (President of the Adelaide Camera Club, which is presenting this as its Fourth International Salon in conjunction with the Royal Adelaide Exhibition) said that he had seen all the photographs entered and, to the best of his knowledge, it was the finest collection of overseas prints ever brought to Australia. The American and Canadian prints, which occupied all the top places, were consistently of the highest quality.

“Mr. Dickinson, who had been on the selection jury since its inception, says it is the best and biggest collection of photographs ever sent from abroad and he cannot understand how we got such a fine response”, said Mr. Tomlinson.

“I think this is the result of the S.A. Chamber of Manufactures action in sending information of the Royal Adelaide Exhibition to all who received entry forms for this salon. People overseas realized that the exhibition is going to be a very big one, attracting many hundreds of thousands of people”.

Mr. Ainslie Roberts, one of the judges, said: “In a salon of this quality a certificate of merit exemplifies a very high standard”.

The selection jury, apart from awarding about 20 Certificates of Merit, made the following principal awards:
Silver Medallions (2):
John Benus, Philadelphia; Over the Sands:
Boris Dobro, Santa Barbara, California: Portrait.
Bronze Medallions (6):
Henry L. Waddle: Lily Nectar:
Alfred Blyth: The Waterfront:
Tom Frith: Above the Clouds:
S.M. Hall: Old Nuremburg:
Lowell Miller: Blue Crystal:
Jack Wright: Pup Appeal.
