RE-FORMED 1905

The Barossa Camera Club, Nuriootpa, listed in the Australian Photographic Journal directory of Photographic Societies from 1895 to 1898, was the second photographic society formed in South Australia and the earliest recorded in a country town. The Hon.Secretary was Mr. Walter J. Ponder, Manager of the National Bank at Nuriootpa.

A meeting of persons interested in amateur photography was held at the institute last week to discuss the desirableness of forming a local photographic society. The attendance was small, but promises of support were received from several absentees, and it was decided to form a society under the title of the Barossa Camera Club. Mr. R.H. Ball was appointed President, and Mr. R.A. Perry Hon.Secretary and Hon.Treasurer. The officers, Rev. W.A. Millikan and Messrs. A. Clark and P.A. Roberts, were appointed a committee to draft rules. There is every prospect of the society being well supported, as there is a goodly number of amateurs in the district, and the local conditions are favorable for photography.
