At a well attended meeting of the Bathurst Camera Club at Mr F. Blomfield's rooms on Monday evening, the President (Mr Moody) gave a practical demonstration of sepia toning, using Baker and Rouse's solution for the purpose. So interesting and instructive was the demonstration that the meeting, on the motion of Mr Ambrose, seconded by Mr Murray, subsequently accorded Mr Moody, a vote of thanks. Several prints and plates were submitted by members and information sought was supplied. At the next meeting of the club, which assembles every alternate Monday, the first work of members is to be submitted for discussion and at the following meeting, Mr W.J. Crane will discourse on bromide enlargements.

ANNUAL BATHURST SHOW
IMPROVEMENTS IN PHOTOGRAPHY

In the photographic section, in both professional and amateur departments, a distinct advance on previous exhibitions is noticeable. The honors in the former go to Messrs Beavis Bros. of Howick-street. Mr H.C. Beavis, who holds the gold medal of the society, has added three more first prizes to the many previously awarded. This year the firm scores first for portraits, first for portrait enlargements and first for landscape. It also has a very fine non-competitive exhibit. A picture of interest in this is one of the President of the Bathurst Bowling Club, together with a photograph of the Singer Cup and a snapshot of the green, as well as a record of scores made in the Singer competition. Australian manufacturers more than hold their own in the photographic section, all the pictures exhibited being on Messrs Baker and Rouse's well known Pearl paper. Mr C.J. Beavis, the well known and successful photographer, of George street, Bathurst, secured first prize for enlarged landscape. Last year, with four entries, he secured the judge's award in no fewer than three instances. As usual, he is showing an excellent non-competitive exhibit, features of which are two Machattie Park views which were awarded pride of place at last year's exhibition. Mr C.J. Beavis patience in child portraiture is exemplified by the life-like enlargement of "Babs in the dish". Among the amateurs, Miss Bassett secured first for snapshots, one picture, the "donkey farm", being a clever snap, while the other, "White Leghorn", is also of a somewhat rare character. A unique exhibit is that by Mr Gunter, His pictures, which were taken with a pin-hole camera without a lens, are really remarkable. Those photographically inclined will derive much interest from an inspection of his cameras, which are also on view.

Some time ago a Camera Club was started in Bathurst with a great flourish of trumpets. Officers were elected and members paid their annual subscriptions. But that was the last that was heard of the club surely there are enough enthusiasts in a city like Bathurst to resurrect it and make a fresh start.
