BOYNE VALLEY CAMERA CLUB
This new and enthusiastic camera club has been recently formed at Littlemore, on the Boyne Valley Line, Queensland.

The initial meeting was held on 23rd April, when there was a good attendance, resulting in the election of the following office-bearers: President, R. Miller; Vice-President, J. Hammond; Treasurer, Mrs. O. Miller; Hon. Secretary, S. Burrows.

Activities include bi-monthly contests and monthly field days. The suggestions in the Kodak bulletins “How to Form a Camera Club” are being used as a basis for a constitution.

The monthly field day took place on 24th June in the form of an excursion to “Table Mountain Scrub” where, due to the excellence of our guide, Mr. R. Pershouse, many interesting subjects were found and duly photographed.

An exciting highlight was provided by the capture of a ten-foot carpet snake, which was elected a “model” with a view to future set subject competitions for “Bird, Animal or Insect”.

The results of the monthly competitions resulted in:
OPEN: l, S. Burrows; 2, B. Hinds; 3, J. Hammond.
SET (“TREE STUDY”): l, B. Hinds; 2, O. Miller; 3, S. Burrows.

A vote of thanks was given to Mr. Knudson, a Gladstone photographer, for his generous donation to the Club.

The month of November featured much in our club activities. Of special note was the excursion to Tannum Beach, Gladstone’s seaside resort. On arrival there, we were at once attracted by the beautiful beach, where photography was lost for a few hours. However, as the afternoon advanced, the atmosphere and lighting conditions gave more opportunities for pictorial work.

At the meeting held on 30th November, it was decided to purchase a 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" enlarger for the club.

At the meeting held on 18th February, M. Donohoe was elected treasurer, and a vote of thanks was given to his predecessor, B. Reinke, who has entered the Services.

Competition results were;
OPEN IN OILS OR WATER COLORS: S.G. Burrows.
AUSTRALIAN SCENERY: 1, O. Miller; 2, S.G. Burrows; 3, J. Ball.
SEASCAPE OR MARINE: 1, S.G. Burrows; 2, O. Miller.

The newly arrived 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" enlarger has caused much excitement and should add greatly to the scope of the Club’s activities.

The first year resulted in a membership of twenty-nine, and an excellent financial status for the club.

The following committee has been elected: President, D. Donohoe; Vice-Presidents, Joyce Hammond and A.J. Booth; Secretary, S.G. Burrows; Treasurer, Miss M. Donohoe; Patron, Mr. H. Knudson; Honorary Members, Mesdames W.W. Hammond, A. Burrows, O’Sullivan and J. Blackwell.

The year’s competitions resulted as follows:
1, S.G. Burrows, 54; 2, M. Donohoe, 33; 3, O. Miller, 31:
Consolation Awards to J. Hammond, J. Ball and B. Hannacky.

Seven lectures were held during the year. The arrival of a Gilkon Enlarger for 32-volt current has now enabled us to include enlargements in our competitions. Two first and three second prizes were gained by members at the recent Gladstone Show. The club is starting the new season in August with a Photographer’s Ball. Meetings are held at the Secretary’s private residence, “Rushbrook”, Littlemore. All interested persons are invited to attend.

The Boyne Valley Camera Club conducted a Novelty Barn Dance at their club rooms at Hellen’s Siding on September 19th and there was an excellent attendance, proceeds amounting to £l4/12/9. This will be invested in photographic equipment normally out of reach of the ordinary member.

The new season’s competitions are being conducted and it is hoped that suitable trophies will be available for awarding to all winners, with cups for yearly progressive scores.

The meeting held on 22nd September was attended by Miss M. Donohue {Treasurer), D. Donohoe {President), J. Booth (Vice-President), D. Booth, J. Ball, B. Hannesky.

A schedule of field days, lectures and social arrangements is being prepared for endorsement by the organizing committee.

Rain interfered with arrangements that have been made for a lecture and as an alternative an A.P.-R. portfolio was displayed at a gathering of members at the Secretary’s residence and this brought forth many comments as to their merits or otherwise. Nevertheless our favorable appreciation of the portfolio was unanimous. We are also indebted to Mr. Jas. Burrows, M.L.A., for the loan of his album Australia which proved to be of great interest to everyone. These pictures all help to bring the cities a little closer to us here in the country.
