KYOGLE CAMERA CLUB
On Wednesday night, the first general meeting of the Kyogle Camera Club was held, when the operation of a camera was discussed. The club was formed by a group of local amateur photographers up an inaugural meeting last week.

Election of officers for the club resulted: Mr. D. Foster, president; Mr. P. Timbs, vice president; Mr. Norman Ellis, secretary; and Mr. Bruce Holland, treasurer.

The president outlined the aims and objects of the club which were: (a) to increase the popularity of photography in the district, (b) to improve the quality of members work by mutual aid and (c) to conduct print contests and to hold discussions and lectures on photography.

At the meeting on Wednesday night, following the discussion on the camera, it was decided to hold a demonstration on developing and printing at a later date.

Competitions will be run for the best prints of the month, in which all members may compete. It is the club's belief that competitions such as these will tend to make each member improve his work and thus the quality of amateur photography. Also for the use of the club are books on photography, made available by members, so that all may read and study the subject without having to buy themselves, expensive books.

At present, meetings are being held in the residence of the president, Mr. D. Foster, in Fawcett Street each Wednesday fortnight, but as membership grows the club may have to seek larger quarters for its meetings.

"CHILD STUDY" SUBJECT
The guest at the last meeting of the Kyogle Camera Club was Mr. Kay Parker, who gave criticism of prints submitted for this month's competition. The subject for this month was "child study" and Mr. Parker was quite impressed by the standard of the entries. It was decided to invite further membership by holding a Visitors night at the home of Mr. D. Foster, 8 Fawcett Street, next Monday evening. A discusion and display of many tpes of cameras will be the feature of the evening, and all interested persons are invited to attend.

An interesting non-competitive display in the Domestic pavilion was a wall of selected photographs shown by members of Kyogle Camera Club. These included winning entries in competitions which the club has conducted and covered portraiture, landscape, and general interest subjects.

CAMERA CLUB PLEASED WITH QUALITY WORK OF ITS MEMBERS
Members of the Kyogle Camera Club are of the opinion that their photographs would be able to compete quite successfully in the amateur photographers competitions held periodically in Sydney. Members decided this after perusing samples of prize winning entries in the Sydney competition. Mr. Bill Hofman, as official of the club, said that in his opinion some of the prizewinners, in the Sydney competition were not up to the standard in the Kyogle competition. He said that this opinion was shared by other members of the club.

At the annual meeting the club decided to bring its monthly competition into line with the "Australian Photo-Review" competition held in Sydney and to enter prints in this competition. In his annual report to the meeting, the retiring president, Mr. Derek Foster, expressed the opinion that some members were not as actively interested in the club as they could have been.

The following gained places in the point score competition held over the past 12 months (the club conducted 12 monthly competitions): Endel Liipa 1, W. Hoffman 2, Miss N. Morrow 3. The club decided to continue the 12 monthly competitions in the coming year and to award two to four films as prizes in each monthly competition.

Officers elected for the coming 12 months are as follows: President, Norm Ellis; vice-presidents, Mrs. M. Foster, Mrs. G. Mackay; secretary, Mr. D. Foster; treasurer, Miss Ann Reeves; publicity officer, W. Hoffman; judging committee, Messrs. E. Liipa and D. Foster (with one other to be elected on each competition night). The election of a different judge on each competition night will give members a great deal of experience in the judging of photography.

The Annual Meeting of the Kyogle Camera Club was held on October 21st. The year has been quite a successful one, despite the loss of three of the keenest members, who have moved from the district. Competitions during the year produced 380 prints, the winner of the Point Score Competition being E. Liipa.

Office-bearers elected for the current year were: President, N. Ellis; Secretary, D. Foster: Treasurer, A. Reeves; Judging Committee, E. Liipa and D. Foster.

It was decided that the competitions would fall into line with the A.P.-R. competition, so that the club’s prizewinning and HC prints each month could be forwarded to the A.P.-R.

The following meeting, on November 4th, was in the form of a social evening at the President’s home, the feature being the presentation of the Point Score Trophy to E. Liipa. Competition Night, on November 18th, yielded 36 prints, eight of which were chosen to be entered in the next A.P.-R. competition.

A very enjoyable and instructive night was held on December 2nd at the Secretary’s home. It was in the form of a Close-up Evening, when table-top and unusual objects were shot from distances of 24 inches down to 3 1/2 inches.

FLOOD PHOTO CONTEST
A scheme to provide sets of the best photographs taken during the Kyogle flood and to donate the profit from sale of them to the Kyogle Flood Relief Fund has been proposed by local pharmacist Mr. G.F. Hitchin and the Kyogle Camera Club. Mr. Hitchin said that if all persons who took photographs during the flood would bring their negatives to his shop the Kyogle Camera Club and himself would select the best negatives for printing. Prints from these would be developed for the cost of the paper only, and the difference between this and the selling price would go to the fund. Mr. Hitchin said all negatives would be recorded and returned to their owners.

FLOOD PHOTOS
Photographs of the Kyogle flood which are being sold to aid the district relief appeal are available at G.F. Hitchin's chemist shop, Main Street.

Kyogle Camera Club and local amateur photographers have provided the photographs. Mr. Hitchin said 1000 photographs were available and 250 of them had already been sold.

"By the way they have been selling, I expect the remainder to clear within a few days," he said. The pictures are being sold for 1/- each.

CLUB'S GIFT OF £25
Kyogle Camera Club effort of raising funds for the Kyogle flood relief appeal is particularly worthy of mention.

Although the club has only a small membership, it was able, by the sale of flood photographs processed by members and distributed to the public by Mr. G.F. Hitchin, to give £25 to the appeal.
