Members enjoyed the sound film Highlights and Shadows presented by Mr. B. Townsend of the Kodak Lecture Service Division on September 10th. This film took us on a visual tour of the various Kodak establishments in the U.S.A., where we witnessed the manufacture of the products we use from day to day in our photography.

Four new members were welcomed to our ever growing ranks. An announcement was made to the effect that Mr. H.A. Little has been appointed Publicity Officer of the Society. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Kodak Lecture Service Division for its most interesting series of lectures and demonstrations.

MARRICKVILLE PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
The members of the Marrickville District Photographic Society attended the first camera outing to the Oaks, Camden, on Sunday, June 28th. The success of this outing was all that was expected, and I am sure the members will make such outings a regular event for the months to come.

On the 8th July was set aside for an open competition and the judge’s remarks show that the CLASS B members are doing very well and we should see a lot more from them in the future. Mr. Cliff Noble, who was the judge for this competition, also gave a demonstration of make-up for caricature portraits.

The society will hold its 'Annual Print of the Year' in the Marrickville Town Hall on Wednesday 12th August, at 8pm; the judges will be Mr. Cliff Noble, Mr. B. Townsend, Mr. E. Holden and Mr. H. Lofts; and the trophy for CLASS A is a Challenge Shield donated by a friend of the society, Mr. A.H. Little. For CLASS B there is also a Challenge Trophy, donated by the Publicity Officer of the society (Mr. H.A. Little).

Any information regarding the society may be obtained from the Publicity Officer, Mr. H.A. Little, Box 74, P0, Marrickville, or from the Hon. Secretary, Mr. K. J. Caines, Box 69 P0, Marrickville.

At the November meeting we held an inter-club match against Campsie Camera Club. The Campsie Camera Club won by quite a margin. Our congratulations to Campsie. We hope that next year the boot will be on the other foot. Our judges were Messrs. Bicknell and Lofts, and Mr. Lofts gave a very informative print criticism. During the judging the Campsie Camera Club secretary gave a brief history of his club. Our member, Mr. Little, then gave a brief history of our club.

If you are interested in joining you may get in touch with either our Secretary, or Mr. A. Little.

Snapshots, from a report on a meeting of the Marrickville District Photographic Society.

The meeting turned out to be a most surprising night. Being the last meeting of the year, we expected a good roll-up, so we catered for 20 people. We had sweets, biscuits and drinks galour, but to our astonishment, only eleven people turned up. This would not have been so bad if four others had not left early for home, leaving seven to polish off the food. Boy, did we have a feed!

Later, we discussed an amendment to the Constitution, which would have taken most of the committee's powers away. The discussion reached a furious tempo, and looked like developing into a good fight, had not our president acted swiftly and restored order". Ah, those "drinks galour."

MARRICKVILLE PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
I have no doubt that our February meeting was one of the most interesting and educational our members have ever attended. Mr. Barry Townsend, of Kodak Ltd., brought along a lecture entitled “Color Facts, "Part 1", which, although more technical than most, was appreciated by all. Our Club recommends this lecture to all other societies. At this meeting we also enjoyed a lecture on “Control in Enlarging”, delivered by Mr. E. Holden. We learnt a lot of little tricks which will be of benefit. I can honestly say that this was one of the fullest and most eventful evenings that we have had for a long, long time.

Of the two competitions held at this meeting, the first was a set subject, Against the Light, and the second was open. Mr. Townsend kindly judged both competitions and the results were:
AGAINST THE LIGHT: B GRADE: 1, S. Hart, Memorial ; 2, S. Hart, Sunrise.
AGAINST THE LIGHT: C GRADE: 1, K. Caines, Apollo; 2, K. Caines, Coming Down; 3, K. Caines, Coal Mine.
OPEN; B GRADE: 1, S. Hart, Pylon, 2, S. Hart, Beach Patterns, 3, S. Hart Black Swan.
OPEN; C GRADE: 1, K. Caines, Quay Side; 2, K. Caines, National Art Gallery, 3, F. Roche, Gunnamatta.

An error in our last report calls for a correction. One of our judges for the November inter-club event was Mr. Cliff Noble not Mr. Lofts, as reported.

Next month we will hold our Second Annual General Meeting and election of officers. This would be a good time to join the club. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month, at 8pm, in the Engineers Room, at the Marrickville Town Hall, but plans are being made to meet fortnightly.
