MARYBOROUGH PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
In looking back at a Pugh's almanac, which should always be read gradually before going to bed, especially the interesting parts about "ports and harbors", I beheld a wonderful revelation, no less than the recorded incorporation of the Maryborough Amateur Photographic Society with Mr. W. Dawson, who lens so much — miscroscopic joke here — as President with a capital P. In a later edition of this thrilling journal it will be noticed that the whole concern, consisting of duly appointed officers, has vanished, and that the Society non est. This is a pity, Mr. Dawson, and you vice-presidents, Messieurs, C.A.J. Woodcock and C. Powers, because the Society had a most worthy object in view. What can be a more elevating amusement than that of photographing ? It is first of all an art, for no man can turn out a good picture without a study of artistic shading, and secondly, it is a great deal less harmful than amateur geology which leads insufferable prigs who have attacked cliffs with shingle hammers, and therefore know all about the formation of the globe from its start, to give firm and decided opinions on mining. Photography is a pastime only second to amateur natural history study, and at the same time does not demand from the student the same constant attention to his self, sought scientific recreation. It is very sincerely to be hoped that the Society has really only disappeared for a year and that it will shortly revive, with or without the paraphernalia of titled officials who have done little more to forward the interests of the concern and of the art generally, than to receive the fleeting decoration which their exalted position carried.

MARYBOROUGH PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
The Maryborough Photographic Society held a most enjoyable camera run in the launch "Spray" on St. Patrick's Day. A start was made from the Lamington Bridge about 10.30am, but owing to the tide ebbing it was decided to make for Tinana Creek instead of up the river as at first intended. The day was all that could be desired, and about 30 persons took part in the day's outing. After a pleasant trip up the creek, a stop was made at Mr. Kinbacker's landing, where all went ashore for lunch. A large number of cameras were in evidence, and several snap-shots of the very pretty views were taken, the younger members of the Society being shown points in focusing and exposure. The members of the Society are pledged to show and impart all the information they possess, and as an interchange of ideas is beneficial even to the most experienced, it is to be hoped that all who have cameras will join the Society.
