HONOR ROLL
PHOTOGRAPHIC HONORS

The Australian Photographic Society has an Honors system that recognizes the skills, effort and achievement of APS members. As a member of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), APS also administers applications for FIAP’s honor system, FIAP Distinctions, on behalf of all Australian applicants, including those that are not APS members.

Both organizations have honors that are awarded for photographic excellence and also honors for service to photography.

Australian Photographic Society - Honors (Skill)

Licentiate (LAPS)  This Honor is intended to allow the advanced club worker of reasonable proficiency to obtain recognition for their efforts. This Honor may be attained by the Exhibition or Panel system.

Associate (AAPS) This Honor is intended as a goal, offering a substantial challenge to the accomplished photographer. The standards required are deliberately kept high but not so high as to preclude active Australian and overseas photographers from applying. This Honor may be attained by the Exhibition or Panel system.

Fellow (FAPS) This Honor is intended as a higher goal than AAPS, offering a substantial challenge to very accomplished photographers. The standards required are deliberately kept high but not so high as to preclude active Australian and overseas photographers from applying. This Honor may be attained by the Exhibition or Panel system.

Master (MAPS) may be achieved by the Exhibition or the Panel system. This is for photographers who have gained FAPS. If applying by Panel the submission must be complete in itself, and coherent, illustrating a specific theme. The choice of ideas is entirely up to the author. The result needs to be that the folio stands on its own as an expression of the author’s creativity in transmission of emotion, moods, illusions, or any other message.

Grand Master (GMAPS) may be achieved by the exhibition system. This is for photographers who have gained MAPS and are continuing to have success in international exhibitions in a wide range of cultures.
