WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The Wallaroo Camera Club held their weekly meeting in the club rooms last evening when a full attendance of members were present. General regret was expressed at Mr. Cobb's removal to Kapunda, and it was decided to send him an enlarged photograph of the club's members, as a slight memento of his services as Vice-President. Mr. Young gave a practical demonstration of toning P.O.P. prints using tabloid gold toning, and Mr. Henderson demonstrated bromide enlarging by lantern. Both items were very interesting to the members present, and at the close Messrs Young and Henderson were thanked for their services. It was decided to hold a lantern entertainment on 29th January exhibiting lantern slides made by club members, when P. Allen, Esq., M.P., will give his lecture entitled "Beauty Spots of Australia", the proceeds of entertainment, after paying expenses, to be devoted to the Italian Earthquake Fund.

CAMERA CLUB CONCERT: The Wallaroo Camera Club, assisted by Mr. Peter Allan, M.P., and local performers, gave an excellent concert in the Wallaroo Town Hall last evening in aid of the Italian Earthquake Fund. There was a large audience. The program consisted of songs, by Misses Bowering, Schumann, E. Price, and Harman, Messrs T. Gower, H. Walsh, W.O. Jones, S. Martin, and Ken Bews, the Wallaroo School Children, and the Wallaroo Orchestra. Every item was well rendered, and each received its fair share of praise.

Mr. Allen delivered a lecture on "Places worth seeing", but as there were sixty slides to be shown, including some fine local views, he had to be very brief in his descriptions. A number of the slides were the work of the members of the Wallaroo Camera Club.

The Mayor (Mr. James Brenton) presided. Mr. E. Martin moved a vote of thanks to those who had assisted in the performance. Mr. Allen acknowledged the vote and passed a similar compliment to the Chairman.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The Wallaroo Camera Club held their weekly meeting at the club rooms on Friday evening last, Mr. Martin presiding. Mr. T.B. Ragless, of the Adelaide Camera Club, gave an interesting lecture on cloud photography and combination printing. The subject was dealt with clearly and it was very instructive to all. Mr. Sedgley moved a hearty of thanks to Mr. Ragless for his continued support to the club, touching on past instructive lectures and demonstrations that were given by him, also the mover pointed out the advantage the younger members were deriving by belonging to the club, as they had the benefit of experience of such men as Mr. Ragless. Mr. Martin seconded and voiced the sentiments of the previous speaker. Mr. Ragless responded and said it was always a pleasure for him to assist the Wallaroo Camera Club in any way and he was pleased if any point he had explained had been helpful to any member. He looked upon camera clubs as mutual societies and anything he was able to do to help any member would be a pleasure to him. Master Victor Steer exhibited an optical lantern of his own manufacture and though rough in appearance, showed views to advantage when thrown on the screen. Master Steer was complimented by all members present on his efforts. It shows that what he saw in the club room was not wasted, as before the formation of the club Master Steer knew nothing of photography and in less than six months he turns out an optical lantern and slides of his own manufacture. Next Friday evening Mr. Mat Mitchell, of Wallaroo Mines, will demonstrate flashlight photography.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The Wallaroo Camera Club held their weekly meeting on Friday evening last. There was a good attendance of members, Mr. Henderson presiding. Mr. Newbury gave a practical demonstration on the manufacture of dry plates, making six half and six quarter plates, and explained the chemical action the developers had on the plate. This difficult matter was dealt with in a clear and concise manner, and all present were greatly interested in the proceedings, the majority coming to the conclusion that it was far more convenient to be able to buy prepared plates for a few pence per dozen than having to go to the trouble to make them when wanted, and feeling thankful that photography had made such strides as to enable them to purchase "ready to use" plates so reasonably. Mr. Martin moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Newbury for the trouble he had gone to make the demonstration interesting. He (Mr. Martin) was sure that all present were deeply indebted to him for unveiling a process that was not often undertaken by amateurs, and he could assure Mr. Newbury and those present that after what he had seen that night it was not his intention to make his own plates. Mr. Newbury responded, and remarked that the process appeared difficult to some, but it was much cheaper to make one's own plates. However, he was pleased if what he had demonstrated had been helpful to the members. The Club meets at 7.30 every Friday evening from 1st April.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The weekly meeting of the Wallaroo Camera Club was held at the Club's rooms on Friday evening, Mr. Martin presiding. The Hon.Secretary read a statement of the progress of the Club for the past six months, showing the Club to be in a good sound position, thirty active members being good on the books. Mr. Martin gave a very interesting lecture entitled "Hints to Amateurs", dealing with the formation of the camera and lens and advice to those about to purchase a camera; also subjects to take and how to take them, exposure plates to use and subsequent development. Several questions were asked and satisfactorily answered, and the lecture proved very instructive to all. Mr. Hocking moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Martin. He was sure all present were indebted to that gentleman for the trouble he had gone to make his subject interesting. Mr. Martin suitably responded. Members are looking forward to next Friday evening, when Mr. Mat. Mitchell is to demonstrate outdoor portraiture. No doubt the lecture will be up to the high standard reached in Mr. Mitchell's lectures.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The weekly meeting of the Wallaroo Camera Club was held in the club rooms on Friday evening, Mr. Martin presiding over a good attendance. Mr. Mat Mitchell, of Wallaroo Mines, attended and gave a lecture entitled "Outdoor Portraiture". Before commencing his lecture Mr. Mat Mitchell in a few well chosen words thanked the club very sincerely for the great honor conferred on him by electing him a life member of the club, and the members could rest assured that they might rely on his assistance always, and he hoped the members generally would rise to a very high pitch in photography. Mr. Mitchell then proceeded with his lecture and dealt first with indoor portraiture and showed the different effects of lighting, also the construction of a studio suitable for amateur work, also out door portraiture and the position of the sitter and camera, backgrounds, lighting. All present gained several valuable hints on portraiture generally and are deeply indebted to Mr. Mitchell. The lecturer touched lightly on the most suitable lens for portrait work, and the plates, developing and retouching of negative, also the preparation of lantern slides. Every item was attentively listened to. Mr. Sedgely proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Mitchell for his very instructive lecture, seconded by Mr. Martin, and supported by Mr. Ragless. Mr. Mitchell suitably responded, stating he hoped anything demonstrated by him would prove helpful to the members. Next Friday a trimming and mounting competition will take place, when every member will compete and some very fine results are expected.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The weekly meeting of the Wallaroo Camera Club was held in the Club rooms on Friday evening. There was a good attendance, including a number of visitors. Mr. Henderson (President) delivered a lecture, entitled "Lantern Slides of a Holiday Ramble". The ramble commenced at Tumby Bay, and after a passing glance at the progress of this rising town and seaport, a journey across the gulf to Port Victoria was made. Views of the jetty at that port were shown. Some excellent views of that ideal pleasure resort, Port Lincoln, were thrown upon the screen. After viewing these attention was directed to Port Adelaide, where views of the river with its many ships of varied sizes were shown, including the Adelaide Steamship Company's latest new steamer "Koombana". Some beauty spots of the Adelaide Botanical Gardens and also views of hill scenery near Adelaide, including Waterfall Gully, were shown. After slides showing the Melbourne Railway Station, the audience was introduced to the Healesville district, in which there is an abundance of ferns. A trip from Upper Fern Tree Gully to Gembrook along the famous 2ft. gauge railway revealed ferns in abundance and scenery to which even the camera could not do justice. From Gembrook the audience were transfered to Launceston in Tasmania. Some fine views of the gorge and mountains around that city were shown. Views of Burnie were followed by slides of the old convict settlement at Port Arthur, showing the ruins of the old-time gaols and Church. This brought the lecturer to the end of his ramble, and he had perforce to return home. Some slides of Wallaroo Mines and Wallaroo were then shown, some taken of the rough sea a few weeks ago being exceptionally fine. Mr. Sedgley moved a hearty vote of thanks to the lecturer for his instructive and interesting description of the numerous slides shown. He felt sure that all present were deeply indebted to Mr. Henderson for demonstrating the wisdom of taking a camera on a holiday and bringing home a tangible proof of places visited, Mr. Martin seconded. Mr. Henderson responded and thanked those present for the very attentive hearing he had received. He would ensure them that it was a great pleasure to take a camera on a holiday and be sure to bring home scenes of beauty which would always be a pleasure to look upon.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The Wallaroo Camera Club held their usual weekly meeting in the club room on Friday evening. The President occupied the chair, a good number of members being present. Mr. Martin gave a very practical demonstration, embracing all the trouble that beset the beginner in photography, dealing first with the manner in which the sensitive plates should be loaded in the slides and subsequently placed in the camera, then the time, stops, was dealt with, in fact the whole mechanism of the camera, and in such a concise way that even the greenest novice at the game could not fail to understand. Developing of negatives was always carried to a successful issue and the demonstration concluded with bromide printing. The whole lecture was bristling with useful hints which cannot fail to be of great benefit to the beginner or the well advanced worker in this most fascinating of pastimes. Next Friday evening Mr. Henderson will demonstrate bromide enlarging, when we understand some new features will be introduced and a highly interesting evening is anticipated.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The weekly meeting of the Wallaroo Camera Club was held in the club room on Friday evening last, at 7.30pm, Mr. Martin presiding over a large attendance owing to Mr. Henderson not being able to be present. Mr. Millington, of Broken Hill, kindly consented to give a demonstration on the latest system of bromide printing with Nipera bromide papers and Austral developers, and excellent results were obtained, the finished prints being a glossy pure black and white tone and when burnished had the appearance of a highly enameled photograph, and the post cards were all that could be desired. A great deal of interest was evinced in the proceedings and members generally, are thankful to Mr. Millington for introducing this new paper into the club. Mr. Millington said he saw no reason whatever for photographs to go outside our own Commonwealth for photograph paper, etc., when we could obtain an article such as he had used to-night, which was made in Australia by Australia's workmen with Australian materials, and was decidedly superior to the imported article. A number of lantern slides were subsequently shown, and it is pleasing to note the progress that is being made by members in this interesting branch of photography. Next Friday evening Mr. Stone will demonstrate factorial developing.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The meeting of the Kapunda Photographic Club on Tuesday evening was well attended. Mr. B.R. Banyer (President) presided. The pictures in the competition between the Adelaide Camera Club and Wallaroo Camera Club were on view. The adjudicators are the President and Messrs. Thomas Warner (Hon.Secretary) and A. Berrett. It was reported that the photographic section of the Kapunda Show prize-list had been revised and members were urged to compete. Mr. Berrett stated that recently he had an opportunity of attending a meeting of the Semaphore Camera Club, where he was cordially welcomed as a member of the Kapunda Photographic Club. A letter was received from Mr. J. Kauffmann, of Adelaide, re the prints in the club's landscape competition. The action of the Hon.Secretary in, allowing the prints to be forwarded to Dr. Pooler, of Stirling, for inspection was approved. The work of the evening was the carbon process, demonstrated by Mr. R.S. Hawke. Mr. Hawke explained the single transfer process and worked with several colors of pigment and with varying strengths of sensitization.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
Mr. Mat Mitchell, on Friday night, added another interesting demonstration to the many the members of the Wallaroo Camera Club have had the good fortune to witness, the subject dealt with being "Coloring Lantern Slides", the results obtained being very fine. Considerable interest was evinced by the good number present in the way in which Mr. Mitchell, by a few strokes of the brush, turned an ordinary black and white slide to one of natural color, proving conclusively that photography and art should go hand in hand. The slides, so colored, were subsequently thrown on the screen and met with the hearty approval of all. Mr. Mitchell also lightly dealt with retouching negatives, showing how the negatives could be improved by this means. A very hearty vote of thanks was tendered to Mr. Mitchell.

Messrs Baker & Rouse wrote, offering a prize of £1 1s Kodak for best pictorial photograph, produced by the club. It was resolved to accept their offer. Next Friday evening Mr. Fred Symons will lecture on the construction of the arc light. This should prove very interesting, as the clubroom having just been fitted up with an arc light for lantern purposes, and this lecture will give members generally an opportunity of gaining a little knowledge of the light they are using.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
LECTURE ON ARC LAMPS
The weekly meeting of the Wallaroo Camera Club was held in the Club room on Friday evening last. Mr. Martin presided over a good attendance. Two new members were admitted. Mr. Fred. Symons gave a very instructive lecture on "Arc Lamps", which proved very helpful to the members generally owing to the Club room having been lately installed with an arc carbon light for lantern work.

Mr. Symons in the course of his lecture, said:
HISTORICAL:
It is a well known fact that when a circuit carrying current is broken the current has a tendency to continue to flow by bridging the gap thus formed, showing its existence by a flame playing between the two ends of the broken circuit. The first careful study of the electric arc was made by Sir Humphrey Davey in 1808 when he produced his 2,000 volt electric arc by using the energy of a 2,000 cell galvanic battery. Sir Humphrey Davey found that the arc formed between two metallic points had far too weak illuminating properties for any practical purpose, and was finally convinced that carbon sticks were the most suitable for the purpose. Up to the present day no substance has been discovered superior to carbon for use in the production of the electric arc Carbon has a very high melting point, and being also a bad conductor of heat, the tips are kept at a very high temperature and very little of the heat is conducted away by the carbon rods.

Under the action of the arc a stream of small carbon particles pass from one carbon to the other, and in consequence for a given voltage a larger arc can be maintained than with metal electrodes.

STRIKING OF THE ARC:
The first thing to be considered in an arc lamp is the striking of the arc. It will require a voltage of about 4,500 to 8,000 volts to bridge across a gap of one or two millimetres, the electric arc requiring about 30 to 40 volts in order to be maintained. As this excessively high voltage cannot be available for starting it, some mechanical means must be provided for producing the arc. To strike the arc the carbons are brought into contact, the circuit is completed, and a current is allowed to flow, and by slightly pulling apart the carbons an arc is formed. On maintaining this arc we find that the carbons are both consumed, thus increasing the air gap between the tips and the flame getting thinner will eventually die out if it is not constantly re-adjusted. This operation is termed feeding the arc, and has to be controlled either by hand or by a mechanical device connected with the lamp. After the arc has been burning for some time the positive carbon will have its end hollowed in a cup shape form which is called the crater, while the negative carbon assumes a pointed shape.

On examining an arc we find that the ends of the carbon become brilliantly incandescent and that both carbons are worn away, the positive about twice as fast as the negative. The oxidation of the carbon forms a vapor around the carbon tips which maintains, the arc. Particles of carbon are detached from one carbon and fly immediately over to the opposite one, the stronger stream taking place from the positive to the negative.

ILLUMINATION:
On turning our attention to the illuminating properties of the arc we find that all parts are not the same, but show at least five distinct parts. The brightest part is the crater, which gives out the greatest amount of light. The points of the negative carbon come next, then the arc and gaseous vapor surrounding it, and, finally, the red parts of the two carbons. We can thus see that the arc itself gives but a very small fraction of the light, its function being to heat only to a very high degree the carbon taps which give out the light. The crater, or cup-shaped form of the positive carbon, is most usefully employed when placed at the top, thus reflecting all the light downwards, and for lantern work the top carbon is always joined to the positive wire and the bottom carbon to the negative. In lantern work it is desirable to keep the bottom carbon in advance of the top carbon so that the centers of each carbon are in a line with the two opposite edges of one another - that is, the front edge top carbon is in a vertical line with the center of the bottom carbon. The advantage of this is that the crater is formed on the front portion of the top carbon, and greater light is thus thrown on to the condenser of the lantern. To assist this matter arc lamps for lantern work are made with a device for tilting the carbons so that the light from the crater can be still further concentrated on to the condenser. Behavior of the Arc. The arc when formed moves around the carbon tips and tends to maintain itself between the two nearest tips, thus causing a flickering in the light.

In order to reduce the shifting of the arc, cored carbons are used, with better conducting materials at the center, thus tending to keep the arc central. The usual practice to arcs for lantern work is to have a larger size carbon in the top or positive holder than in the bottom. The advantage thus gained in that the bottom carbon, being smaller, is a less obstruction to the light thrown from the top carbon on to the condenser. Hissing and spluttering noises are very often produced by improper distance between the carbons, and by adjusting the length of the arc this may be overcome. Impurities in the carbons will also cause hissing and spluttering. Great care must be exercised that no two wires are allowed to touch one another except where the insulation or covering is undisturbed, or the electricity may find a short cut across the place of contact, and by operating the safety cut-outs that are placed in the circuit will cut off the supply of current. At the same time the operator need have no fear of electrocution, or even painful "shocks". The shock from the 200 volt continuous current is not injurious, although by no means pleasant. Therefore, avoid too close a familiarity. It will not breed contempt, by any means - quite the reverse. Mr. Symons also demonstrated the construction of different forms of arc lamps, and how the current traveled. He also explained the terms "amperes" and "volts", and showed how to test the current.

A very pleasant evening was spent, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Symons for his interesting lecture.

On Friday evening next Mr. Young will lecture on "A Holiday Tour", which will be illustrated by slides. A large attendance of members and friends is expected.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
There was a good attendance at the meeting of the Kapunda Photographic Club on Tuesday evening 20th July. The President (Mr. B.R. Banyer) presided. Letters were received from the Adelaide Camera Club and the Wallaroo Camera Club, thanking the Kapunda club for judging the pictures in the competition between the two clubs and for criticisms of the prints. The work of the evening was the improvement of negatives with knife and pencil under the direction of the Hon.Secretary (Mr. T. Warner). The negatives had been purposely taken with objectionable features, which were to be removed in the demonstration.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
One of the best collections of lantern slides yet thrown upon the screen in the rooms of the Wallaroo Camera Club were those illustrating Mr. Young's lecture on "A Holiday tour" the slides being produced by Mr. Cullen from negatives taken by Mr. Young.

Mr. Young commenced his tour at Mount Lofty with a fine picture of the station with the train steaming in, and subsequently took his listeners through the many charming roads and pathways around Mt Lofty showing slides of several beautiful residences, particularly those of Sir J. Symon, Messrs Kither, W. Carr and others, the reproduction being so real that one almost imagined the places were there in reality. Leaving Mt. Lofty for Crafers and Upper Sturt several slides were shown of beauty spots surrounding this locality, and the next slides shown were those of the Zoological and Botanical Gardens which were excellent and a start was then made for Port Adelaide where views of shipping and the Outer Harbor were shown.

Some excellent Tasmanian views depicting the beautiful spots around Launceston, New Norfolk and Hobart were shown which gave the audience a fair idea of what Tasmania is as a holiday resort. After devouring the beauty spots of the little island, views of Port Victoria in Spencers Gulf and some splendid views of the harbor, jetty, and the town were shown. Some local views were thrown upon the screen, which made things appear better than the eye sees them brought the series to a close.

Mr. Young was heartily applauded when finishing, one and all testifying to the excellence of the slider. Mr. Mat Mitchell, who supported the vote of thanks spoke in glowing terms of Mr. Cullen as a lantern slide maker stating that the slides produced were superior to many produced commercially which were made by men of 30 years experience. This speaks volumes for the usefulness of the Club, as before its formation Mr. Cullen was ignorant of the production of lantern slides, but in the short space of 8 months achieves results superior to those made by much older photographers. Mr. Mitchell also complimented Mr. Young on the excellent photographs he had procured, and advised him to keep on and greater success would be his. Mr. Young responded and thanked Mr. Cullen for his assistance in producing the slides and was pleased to know that they had met with the approval of the club, they also thanked Mr. Mitchell for manipulating the lantern.

Next Friday evening Mr. Cullen will demonstrate how to enamel prints, and Mr. Newbury toning bromides when a full attendance is requested.

On Saturday evening next, Mr. Mat Mitchell, of Wallaroo Mines, will, commence a series of free lantern entertainments to be held at the Institute. The object of the lecture is to encourage young people to take more interest in educational matters and the committee are being greatly assisted by the Wallaroo Camera Club who intend to offer every inducement to the young men of the town to visit the rooms. The views shown will be exceptionally good, and the lecturer has a great reputation and the subject he is dealing with is his masterpiece.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The energetic policy of the committee of the Wallaroo Institute is bearing good fruit. There have recently been formed a debating club, and a section of boy scouts, and the Wallaroo Camera Club has been affiliated. On Saturday evening a further advance was made when the first of a series of free public lectures was given. The Wallaroo Camera Club has prepared a number of lantern slides, and undertaken to arrange lectures on Saturday evenings, to be illustrated by optical lantern views. Mr. M.J. Mitchell, of Wallaroo Mines, was the first lecturer, and he spoke on mines and miners. The hall was crowded, and the utmost interest was shown in the entertainment. The idea originated in the mind of the President of the Wallaroo Camera Club (Mr. J. Henderson), and it is hoped that the lectures will counteract the popularity of the street for young people on Saturday evenings.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The first of the series of free lantern lectures, given by the Wallaroo Camera Club, under the auspices of the Wallaroo Institute, was given on Saturday evening last to a large audience. Mr. Thomas Davies, sen., President of the Institute, introduced Mr. Mat Mitchell, who would deliver his lecture entitled "Mines and Miners". Mr. Mitchell (who is a well-known lanternist and lecturer), said it gave him great pleasure to have the honor of giving the first free lantern entertainment, and he hoped it was only the beginning of a very successful era, which would no doubt be very beneficial to the Wallaroo Camera Club, Institute and public generally. He would endeavor to describe by illustrations, the conditions under which the miners of Cornwall work. Various slides of photographs taken down in the underground working, and also surface views, were shown. The whole was attentively listened too and Mr. Mitchell had no difficulty in keeping his audience interested. The President of the Wallaroo Camera Club moved a hearty of vote of thanks to Mr. Mitchell, which was seconded by Mr. John. Mr. Mitchell suitably responded and wished the object every success. The room in which the entertainment was held was packed to the doors, dozens being unable to obtain admission. Arrangements are on foot to approach the Wallaroo Corporation for the use of the Town Hall every Saturday evening. As these lectures are entirely free and are given solely for the amusement and education of the public, it is to be hoped the Corporation will fall in with the idea and grant the use of the hall for so laudable an object.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The weekly meeting of the Wallaroo Camera Club was held on Friday evening, Mr. W. Martin presiding. Arrangements were finally completed for the entertainment on 13th September, in the Wallaroo Town Hall Mr. Mat Mitchell exhibited 80 lantern slides of the most famous paintings of the world to the members of the club. Mr. Mitchell has only just secured this set from Sydney at considerable cost, and as they are guaranteed to be faithful representations of the original paintings by such noted artists as Raphael, Rembrandt, and others, they should draw a crowded house when publicly shown. Members of the club generally are deeply indebted to Mr. Mitchell for the educational treat given them. Mr. Mitchell in responding to the vote of thanks again emphasized the pleasure it was for him to assist the club in every possible way, and if the members had derived pleasure from viewing the pictures he was amply repaid for securing them. When he saw them advertised he thought the opportunity was too good to miss as they are decidedly educational besides being able to convey in some small degree paintings (some centuries old) which the ordinary individual may never see. Next Friday evening Mr. Sedgley will demonstrate intensification and reduction of negatives.

The competitive photographs for Kodak were handed in by Mr. M. Mitchell, who announced that he awarded Master Joe Henderson and Mr. Cullen first prize, and on a show of hands it was decided to hand the camera over to Mr. Cullen. The winning picture was a nice morning scene in one of the squares in Wallaroo with some cows in the foreground. The President had much pleasure in handing the camera over to Mr. Cullen, and he felt sure that good work would be the result. Mr. Cullen suitably responded.

It was resolved that it be compulsory for every member to bring a print or negative to each meeting for criticism or advice, commencing on 29th October. This step is taken to help the younger members, who at the present do not receive the help they should from the club.

Leak, head master of the Wallaroo School, then lectured on the "Volcanoes of the World", which were illustrated by slides, kindly lent by the Public Library, Adelaide. The lecture, from start to finish, was most interesting, and was ably dealt with by the lecturer. It was very pleasing to note the large number of school children present, who evidently took the opportunity of gaining a further knowledge of this interesting subject by means of the lantern. These lectures are gaining popularity with the public, and it is hoped that each one will be well attended. Mr. Henderson moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Leak for his instructive discourse on Volcanoes and Earthquakes, feeling sure that one and all had benefited by the lecture, which was carried with acclamation. Mr. Leak suitably responded. Miss B. May acted as accompanist and playing "God Save the King" brought a very pleasant evening to a close. WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
A large number of friends assembled at the Wallaroo Camera Club Rooms on Friday evening last to hear Mr. Henderson's lecture on his recent holiday tour from Wallaroo to Rockhampton (Queensland), profusely illustrated by lantern slides. Mr. Henderson took his audience by means of the lantern from Wallaroo to Sydney showing some very fine pictures of Manly, the noted surf bathing resort of Australia, also many other views of the world-famous Sydney Harbor, then on to Rockhampton in Queensland shewing the fine suspension bridge there, besides several views of the town itself and the Botanical Gardens, then off again to the famous Mount Morgan Gold Mine, which was responsible for a number of slides giving those present a fair idea of the magnitude of the big mine. The slides on the whole were very good and the lecture was all that could be desired, giving facts and figures of the various productions of this place and the height of that mountain and so on showing a very intimate knowledge of his subject. All present were very interested, and Mr. Watson when moving the vote of thanks (which was seconded by Mr. Martin) simply voiced the sentiments of those present when he said it was a treat too good too miss, and no doubt our genial President will consent to repeat it at some future evening to enable other members who were unable to be with us, an opportunity of hearing him. Next Saturday evening Mr. William Alpin will lecture on the "Chemical side of Photography" to the club members and other friends, when it is hoped a bumper attendance will be recorded.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
The Wallaroo Camera Club met on Monday evening last in the club rooms, Mr. Henderson presiding over a good attendance. Owing to Mr. Henderson's departure from Wallaroo, he reluctantly resigned from the position of President of the Wallaroo Camera Club. On Mr. Sedgley's proposition Mr. Martin was elected President. As the position of Vice-President was thus rendered vacant, Mr. Virgo was duly elected to that position. Mr. Sedgley moved a vote of thanks to the retiring President for his untiring interest taken in the club since its formation, and trusted that Mr. Henderson and family would have successful time at Petersburg. Mr. Henderson suitably responded, saying he trusted the Wallaroo Camera Club would go on and prosper, and it would always give him pleasure to return and spend an evening with the club. Mr. Aplin of Moonta School of Mines delivered a lecture on the "Chemical Side of Photography" which was very ably given, and attentively listened to, the subject being very interesting to photographers generally, as Mr. Aplin showed by illustrations the action the different developers had on the negatives, also the action of intensifying and reducing agents. Mr. Henderson moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Aplin, who in responding stated that he would always be pleased to render any assistance to the Wallaroo Camera Club at any time. After the completion of lecture light refreshments were partaken, of kindly provided by the lady members of the club, and at the close all present wished Mr. Henderson and family good luck and good-bye, and dispersed at 10pm.

The next meeting of the club will take place in the Club's rooms on Friday evening when all members are requested to attend.

PHOTOHISTORY SOUTH AUSTRALIA

The Wallaroo Camera Club was listed in the directory of photographic societies published in the Australasian Photo-Review from 1911 to 1916 with Walter H. Sedgely as secretary, but may have been active before that date. However, it seems the club may have been disbanded before 1916 as Walter Sedgely had moved to Port Augusta as a railway traffic superintendent by 1915 and a new camera club was formed in 1917 with no reference to an earlier club.
In August 1917, a number of ladies and gentlemen interested in photography met at the Wallaroo Institute and unanimously resolved that a club be formed to be known as the Wallaroo Camera Club. Mr J.J. Jones, a carpenter, was elected president, the secretary was H. Lower, and the committee included E.F. Newberry, a chemist, and three women, Miss G. Davey, Miss D. Bowman, and Miss M. Furner. In October the club was showing promise of much success in the development of the art of photography and in the club’s 'Child Study' competition the first prize was awarded to Mr J.J. Jones.

WALLAROO CAMERA CLUB
We are glad to note that a camera club has been formed at Wallaroo, South Australia, with Mr. J.J. Jones as President and Mr. H. Lomer, Hon.Secretary. The membership is small for a start, but the members are very enthusiastic, and an increase is looked for at an early date. Such clubs do a great deal of good to photography in general and we are glad to hear of their establishment.
