WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
At the invitation of Mr. P.W. Pears a meeting of those interested in forming a Camera Club was held on Wednesday. Mr. Pears presided, and Messrs. Moncrieffe Scott, Dornbunch, Macpherson, Barnes, Astley junr., and Baldey were also present. Promises of support were also forthcoming from H. Millar, J.R. Ward, and A.J. Cobcroft. It was decided to form a club, and the members will meet at 4.30pm on the second Wednesday in each month. At each monthly meeting a photographic competition will be held amongst the members on a subject previously decided upon. An Entrance fee of 6d. each will be charged, and at the end of the year the member winning most monthly competitions will receive the whole amount as some slight reward for his trouble, the idea, of course, being to infuse an interest into the club's work. Mr. Macpherson kindly offered to donate an album in which to preserve the various exhibits. The photographic study for next month's competition will be the water reserve, taken from near the new bridge in the Queen's Park.

The Club holds meetings on the first Wednesday and fourth Thursday of each month, when lectures and discussions are arranged. Lectures and demonstrations have already been given by the following: Mr. J. Armitstead (President), “The First Principles of Photography”; Mr. H. Coop, “Development of Plates”: Mr. T. Annes (Hon.Secretary), “Development of Gas light Papers”.

Outings take place fortnightly and a competition is held each month. I send with this a print of group of members and friends taken at a recent outing.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
On Thursday night, before a well attended meeting of the Warwick Camera Club, Sergeant W. Peterson, recently returned from the front, exhibited a number of war photographs taken by himself. These proved extremely interesting, and incidents and anecdotes were racily given by the sergeant, as each photograph was handed round for inspection. By request Sergeant Peterson promised to spend another evening with the club, when a further collection of war photographs will be shown. As a result of a question box having been instituted, several questions, interesting to all present, were satisfactorily disposed of. Photographs for the "architectural study" competition were judged, Mrs. J. Allman receiving first prize, and Mr. J. Evans second prize. Mr. Dornbusch will give a demonstration on the coloring of photographic prints on Saturday next.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
A meeting of the Warwick Camera Club was held on Wednesday night at Mr. J. Armitstead's rooms. The attendance was good, great interest having been created as to the results of the "Animal Study" competition. For the first time the competition photographs were sent to a Brisbane expert to be judged and criticized. The winners declared were Mrs. J. Armistead first and Mrs. Vaughan second. The judge complimented both exhibitors on their work. The average work of the club was declared good. The criticisms of the photographs were read, and the information received was much appreciated by those present. It was unanimously decided to send all future competition photographs to Brisbane for adjudication. Certificates of the club were awarded to those having won first and second prizes in the various competitions held since the inauguration of the club. Mrs. L.W. Tweedie presented those to the various winners.

The question box was next dealt with. Being a "question box" night questions were very numerous, one or two being of a decidedly humorous strain and creating great amusement. The various questions were satisfactorily answered by several members and proved exceptionally interesting and instructive. Owing to the length of time taken in answering questions, several other matters of importance were left over till the next meeting.

It was decided to hold a "Child Study" competition, all exhibits to be handed in in time for the next meeting on Thursday, September 20.

A practical demonstration on the use of "Dry Mounting Tissue" was given by Mr. J. Armitstead, its simplicity and cleanliness appealing to all present. A demonstration was also given by the same gentleman on the "Sepia Toning" of gaslight papers, the various chemical changes being explained as the prints were emersed in the different baths. It was decided to hold a "Still Life" competition, exhibits to be in before October 18th. Mr. A. Fletcher kindly offered a 24 sheets paste on art album as a first prize, and Mr. B. FOR THE BOYS AT THE FRONT
SOMETHING FOR NOTHING

This is what the Y.M.C.A. Snapshots from Home League are endeavoring to do for the boys at the front. The aim of the league is to try and maintain the link between the soldiers at the front and their homes and friends in Australia by means of snapshots. What is more likely to please the boys at the front than the receipt of a photograph of father, mother, brother, sister, or sweetheart? One can well imagine Bill Jim's face when he first gazes on dad's photo. His thoughts are sure to travel home, and at the back of his mind he must convoy ardent thanks to the member of the Snapshots from Home League who was the means of sending the snapshots.

The Snapshots from Home League in Australia has branches established in every State. In Queensland there are thirty branches, embodying 400 members, and also 100 voluntary members in districts where the population is too small to form a local branch. To date in Queensland over 1300 snapshots have been sent to the boys at the front.

The Warwick Camera Club has undertaken the good work for the Warwick district, and already numerous requests for photographs have been attended to and the snapshots despatched. Any relatives or near friends of the boys on active service in the Australian Imperial Forces wishing to send their photos to the boys arc requested to apply to the local secretary (T.G. Amies) who will supply the necessary application forms and full particulars. All photographs, it should be mentioned, are taken absolutely free of cost, the members of the Snapshots from Home League undertaking to do this. Anticipating numerous applications for snapshots the Warwick Camera Club (although numbering fifty members), all of whom have joined the Snapshots from Home League, earnestly appeals to all camera owners to join their ranks, and assist to make the soldier's life a little brighter by sending snapshots.

However, Mr. Fletcher was disallowed the second prize on account of not mounting his photo, therefore Mr. C. McShane is second. The next meeting of the club will be held in October, when the "Still Life" competition will close.

A meeting of the Warwick Camera Club took place on the roof garden of the Langham Hotel on Wednesday evening last, the members being the guest of Mrs. Vaughan. The results of the "Still Life" competition were announced, the judge having placed Mr. E. Moran, "Fruit Study", first, and Mr. T. Amies, "Fruit Study", second. Criticisms of the entries were read, these being well received by all the members. Mr. J. Armitstead having offered to the club any camera that they might decide on at less than cost price, funds were called for, and such generous response was made that the club was able to procure a first-class Kodak. It was decided to raffle this, the proceeds to go to the fund on Heroes' Day, as the effort of the Camera Club. It was further decided to participate in the procession, two motor cars at least being placed at the club's disposal. It was also decided to decorate a lorry to bring under the public notice the "Snapshots from Home League", and also to take photographs at the sports ground of relatives of soldiers on active service, free of cost. Most members present offered their services.

A pleasant function took place on Wednesday night on the roof garden of the Langham Hotel, the members of the Warwick Camera Club being the guests of Mrs. Vaughan. The roof garden was tastefully decorated, and presented quite a festive appearance. The President of the club presented to Mrs. Vaughan, on behalf of the members, a beautiful bromide enlargement, suitably inscribed, made from a negative taken by the recipient, and expressed regret that the club was about to lose such an enthusiastic and capable member. Mrs. Vaughan, in a few remarks, acknowledged the gift and expressed her regret at severing her connection with the club. Several other members voiced their regret at their hostess impending departure. Dainty refreshments were handed round by the gentlemen present, and a most enjoyable evening ensued. Amongst those present were Mr. and Mrs. Devine, Mr. and Mrs. Armitstead, Mr. and Mrs. McShane, Mesdames Allman and Tweedie, Misses Moody (2), Blackledge, Fell, Bishop, Poulsen, also Messrs. Coulter, Fletcher, McCulloch, Nunn, junr., Palmer, Appel, Patrick, Allman junr., Spreadborough, Fell, and Amies.

Thanks were conveyed by the president to the various helpers on Heroes' Day. About 70 applications for snapshots were received and taken on the grounds. The Camera Club's effort for Heroes Day resulted in over £20 being handed into the funds. It was decided to extend the Home Portraiture Competition, all exhibits to be in before January 2, when the next meeting takes place. Owing to the growth in the number of members, Mr. Kirkegaard's rooms, over Messrs. Amies. The demonstration proved exceptionally interesting and instructive, and was well received. Errors, common to most amateurs, were fully dealt with, their causes and the means to avoid same being pointed out. Numerous questions were asked and satisfactorily answered. It was decided to hold the next meeting on February 21, the evening to be devoted to the "Question Box" and "Albums", all members being requested to bring albums and photographs for inspection and criticism. Also, all entries for the landscape competition are requested to be handed in in time for the next meeting, when they will receive a preliminary judgment by the club. On the motion of Mr. L. Nunn, seconded by Mr. J. Armitstead, it was decided that the club donate half-a-guinea from its funds for the relief of those suffering from the recent flood disasters in the north. WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
A meeting of the Warwick Camera Club was held at the club rooms on Thursday last. There was an exceptionally good attendance of members. "The Question Box" was well patronized, and satisfactorily dealt with. Great interest was aroused amongst the members by the albums, photographs, and stereoscopic views brought to the meeting by the various members. These were handed around for inspection, and being numerous, occupied the greater part of the evening. In consequence of this, the "Landscape"competition was postponed until the next meeting which will be held on Wednesday evening, March 6.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING
The first annual meeting of the Warwick Camera Club was held in the club's rooms on Thursday evening last, and there was a good attendance of members.

The secretary, Mr. T.G. Amies, submitted his report as follows: The President and fellow members: It is with great pleasure that I present this, the first annual report of the Warwick Camera Club. The club was formed 12 months ago with eight members, and since then it has gradually increased to its present gratifying position of having forty-six members, all of whom are taking a very keen interest in promoting the standard of amateur photography. During the twelve months we have had several outings which proved very successful, more especially the one held at Emu Vale on the 3rd June, which was beneficial to all members both as regards photography and pleasure.

We have also held during our first twelve months nine competitions, as follows: APRIL: Best photo taken at outing at Rustic Bridge, winner, T. Amies; MAY: Best photo taken at Ford Crossing outing, winner Mr. J. Evans; Mrs. Allman, second. JUNE: Best three photos for focussing cameras at Emu Vale outing, winner, Mr. H. Coop; T. Amies second. Best three photos for non-focussing cameras at Emu Vale outing, winner Miss Blackledge; second Mr. J. Evans. JULY: "Architectural Study", winner Mrs. Allman; Mr. J. Evans second. AUGUST; "Animal Study", winner Mrs. J. Armitstead, Mrs. Vaughan second. SEPTEMBER: "Child Study", winner Mr. F. Hall; Mr. C. McShane second, OCTOBER: "Still Life", winner Mr. E.A, Moran; T. Amies second. NOVEMBER: "Home Portraiture", winner Mrs. A.H. Devine, Mr. J. Armitstead second.

All these competitions were keenly contested, and the work was very satisfactory, the improvement noted in the members work being very good.

Several demonstrations occupied our evening meetings. These were: APRIL: "The first principles of photographs", by Mr. J. Armitstead. MAY: "The development of negatives", by Mr. H. Coop. JUNE: "The printing of gaslight papers", by Mr. T.G. Amies. JULY; "The intensification and reduction of negatives" by Mr. A. Fletcher. SEPTEMBER: "Dry mounting" and "Sepia toning", by Mr. J. Armitstead. OCTOBER; "Tinting gaslight papers", by Mr. C. Dornbusch. JANUARY: "Silhouette photography" by Mr. J. Armitstead. FEBRUARY: "Manipulation of gaslight papers", by Mr. T.G. Amies.

All members will agree that the club's best thanks are due to the above-mentioned members for the way they have assisted the club by their able demonstrations, which were very interesting, and greatly assisted members in photography work generally. One of our evening meetings was occupied by the "Question Box", all members having to ask a question. This proved a novel and very interesting way of spending an evening.

We also had a very pleasant evening as the guests of Mrs. Vaughan at the Langham Hotel before she departed from our midst. Mrs. Vaughan took a great interest in photography, and we miss her presence very much.

A local branch of the Snapshots from Home League was formed in connection with our club in August last, all members agreeing that the cause was a good one. Since the local branch was formed, nearly 150 snapshots have been sent to the boys at the front from this district. Seventy two of these snapshots have been completed by three members. The object of the league is a good one, and members should at least send their quota of two snapshots per month. In the hope of stimulating public interest in the "Snapshots from Home" movement the club abandoned its picnic which was arranged for 1st December at Sandy Creek Falls, and decided to take part in the Heroes Day procession, as well as offer our services to take snapshots on the sports ground. All members will admit that our efforts on this occasion met with success, and if rain had not fallen on that day we would have taken at least 200 snapshots instead of 60. On Heroes' Day we also helped to swell the funds to the extent of over £20, as well as our work on the grounds. The "Snapshots from Home" idea is in the publics mind, and it only behoves the members to follow it up, to ensure that a large number of "snapshots" are sent to the boys at the front during the coming twelve months.

Early in the present year we moved into the rooms we are at present occupying, and thanks are due to Mr. B.C.C. Kirkegaard for his generosity in only charging a nominal rental for their use. I could not conclude this report without offering our very best thanks to the worthy president (Mr. J. Armitstead for the very able manner in which he has encouraged and helped all members of the club.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing twelve mouths: President, Mr. J. Armitstead; vice-presidents, Rev. R.B. Massey, Mr. W.H. Coulter, and Mr. A. Fletcher; committee, Mrs. J. Allman, Mrs. L.W. Tweedie, Miss Blackledge, Mrs. A.H. Devine, Miss Fell, Mr. W.J. Booth, Mr. C. McShane, Mr. L. Nunn and Mr. H. Spreadborough; secretary and treasurer, Mr. T.G. Amies.

After the election of officers, Mr. J. Armitstead gave a very interesting demonstration on the making of lantern slides, showing the very simple method in which slides can be made, both plain and colored. The landscape study competition also closed, and the entries will be sent to Brisbane for judging. It was also decided to hold a picnic on the 6th May, and the committee will meet this Wednesday evening to make final arrangements.

METHODIST PICNIC ON MONDAY
On Monday the Warwick Methodist Sunday schools held their annual picnic. The place chosen on this occasion was Cherry Gully, the children's favorite picnic ground. A special train was secured to convoy the pleasure seekers there. At 8.45am quite a crowd was waiting at the station, and at 9.15 the children arrived in charge of their teachers, and under the supervision of the superintendents. At 9.40 the train left with about 215 adults and 200 children aboard, arriving at its destination about 10.45. A carriage was set aside for the members of the Warwick Camera Club who had seized the opportunity of going to such a picturesque spot. On arrival at Cherry Gully a light shower was falling, and this forecasted rather a disappointing day's outing. However, the shower soon cleared, and the task of unpacking the many cases of sandwiches, cakes, and such other articles required for a large picnic, with the assistance of the ever-ready Boy Scouts, was soon over. Each one was at his best. The ladies prepared the eatables for lunch and erected swings and prepared the tea (of which a record quantity was consumed), whilst the others enjoyed themselves at various picnic games and rambling among the rocks and down the gullies gathering flowers, moss and ferns with which Cherry Gully is extravagantly decorated. At 1pm the children were gathered together for lunch, while the adults looked on and waited for their turn to come. When lunch was over the grounds were almost deserted of juvenile life. All had gone to enjoy the beautiful scenery and enjoy themselves in their own way, scrambling over the rocks, paddling in the water, and others to take snapshots of the best places. Tea was called at 4.30, and when this was over all entrained for home after having spent a day long to be remembered, both by children and adults. Great credit is due to the officers of the Rail way Department for providing comfortable carriages and for their courtesy and assistance in adding their quota to make the day's outing pleasant and enjoyable. The catering was of the best and was distributed amongst Mr. Tucker, Mr. Pettit and Mrs. Thompson. The superintendent and officers of the schools are greatly indebted to Mrs. Ryan, of Cherry Gully, for supplying all the tank water required and also to all those who so willingly assisted to make the day's outing the success which it proved to be.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
Here is a brief summary of the doings of the Warwick Camera Club during its first year of existence. Started with eight members — finished with forty-six. Carried through nine competitions, all of which were keenly contested. Nine talks or demonstrations were given, covering a wide range of subjects, in which the members showed commendable interest. Maintained a local branch of the “Snapshots from Home League”, and since August last has sent about 150 snapshots to the boys at the front — seventy-two of the prints being contributed by three members. On “Heroes Day”, the club raised over £2O for the fund.

For a small town like Warwick, this is a splendid record, and we would like to hear from any other town of equal size, or larger, which can tell us of a better or equally good showing.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
A meeting of the Warwick Camera Club was held at the club's rooms on Thursday night. Despite the bad weather conditions there was a good attendance of members. The results of the landscape competition were announced and the judge's criticisms were read. Mr. J. Armitstead secured first place and Mr. A. Fletcher second. Photographs were handed in for various competitions held at the recent picnic to Cherry Gully. Entries were numerous, but owing to many members being absent it was decided to leave the entries open till Wednesday next, when a special meeting will be held to consider the advisability for another outing on June 3.

The judge's remarks anent the landscape competition were as follows: In judging the present collection of photographs received from the club I have to express my very high appreciation and admiration of the work which has now been submitted. This is very satisfactory to the judge, as his previous suggestions have been carefully attended to. This is the most creditable lot of pictures that I have had the pleasure of judging. I would now suggest that some of your members who have scored highly in this competition would submit some of their work to the editor of the "Australian Photo Review", as competitions are running in this journal, and there is no doubt some of these pictures would be prize winners. Continuing, the judge remarked:— I am really surprised at the rapid progress made by the members. It is unique considering the very erude way many of the earlier attempts were finished off.

Messrs. Kodak, Ltd. also remark: We should be pleased if the owners of the first three pictures would loan us the negatives, as we wish to make enlargements from same for display purposes.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
A special general meeting of the Warwick Camera Club was held in the club room's on Wednesday evening last for the alteration of one or two rules, and it was decided that in future the meetings of the club will be held on the first and third Wednesdays in each month. The four competitions in connection with the Cherry Gully picnic received a preliminary judgment by the members before sending them to Brisbane for judgment. The following were the results: Best picture of the day, Mr. A.F. Fletcher; best picture, non-focusing cameras, Mr. C. Patrick first, Mr. J. Armitstead second; best picture, focusing cameras, Mr. A.F. Fletcher; best picture for novices (members who have not secured a prize previously), Mr. F. Fell first, Mr. C. Patrick second. It was anticipated that a picnic would be held on the 3rd June, but owing to difficulty in procuring transport this has been postponed. It was also decided that the next meeting of the club will be held in June, when a lecture and demonstration of the "Development of Films by Hand and Tank" will be given by Mr. J. Armitstead. This month's competition will be for the best Warwick street scene.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
"Harrington's Photographic Journal", in an editorial, makes very eulogistic reference to the Warwick Camera Club. "The progress of this club", it says "is an object lesson for other clubs, and also for amateurs generally, as it shows what can be done without any great effort; the secret of its success being the varied character of its operations". After detailing how some times obscure operations in photography, and which do not come within the knowledge of the ordinary amateur, may become known through club demonstrations, the "Journal" proceeds:— "We trust that camera workers in towns where there are no camera clubs will take the matter up and follow the example of their Warwick brethren, and that the clubs which have been allowed to drift into a semi-somnolent state, will take a leaf out of the Warwick Club's book and enter upon a renewed lease of life.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
A delightful social evening, organized by the Warwick Camera Club, was held at Johnson's Cafe on Thursday evening. There was a large number present, and a program of cards, competitions, dancing, and musical items made the evening most enjoyable. The verandah was enclosed by flags and the pretty decorations every where introduced the club's colors, red, gold, and white. A dainty supper was served downstairs at tables decorated with golden wattle, roses and trails of smilax. At intervals during the evening dancing was indulged in, music being contributed by Mrs. Caine and the Miss Essie Shilliday, Miss Edith Meggitt, and Miss Gwen Wightman. Songs were rendered by Mrs. Caine, Rev. R.B. Massey, Mr. McKay, Mr. S.J. Nunn, and Mr. Leo. Nunn. Mr. Tweddell contributed a violin solo.

The competitions, which were both novel and amusing, resulted in the following prize winners: The "Patch" competition was won by Miss Poulsen and Mr. McCuIloch. The former received a handsome black crepe-de-chine hand bag, and Mr. McCuIloch an Anzac book, both prizes being donated by Mrs. A.H. Devine. For the "Animal Drawing", Mrs. J. Allman and the Rev. R.B. Massey took first place. Mrs. Allman received a silver photo. frame (donated by Miss Spreadborough), and the Rev. Mr. Massey, a pair of military hair brushes (presented by Mrs. Armitstead. Great amusement was caused by a popular "turn", termed the Hat Trick, which was performed by Messrs. Armitstead, Amies, H. Spreadborough, McShane, Fletcher and Leo Nunn.

The certificates won at the various competitions held during the year were presented by Dr. Phillips. The winners were as follows : Mesdames J. Allman (2), J. Armitstead (2), L.W. Tweedie (2), A.H. Devine (1), Vaughan (1); Misses E. Blackledge (1), J. Ryan (1), Misses A.H. Fletcher (5), T. Amies (3), J. Evans (3), J. Armitstead (2), H. Coop (1), F. Hall (1), C.J. McShane (1), E.A. Moran (1), D. McKay (1), and C. Patrick (1).

Mr. Armitstead, in a few well chosen words, proposed a vote of thanks to Dr. Phillips. Dr. Phillips suitably responded.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
A highly successful meeting of the Warwick Camera Club was held in the club's rooms on Wednesday evening last, when the president (Mr. J. Armitstead) presided over a large attendance of members. A letter from the Australian Comforts fund was read in connection with their forthcoming effort, and Mesdames Armitstead and Devine were deputed to attend the public meeting on behalf of the Camera Club. Congratulations were offered to Mr. A. Fletcher and Mr. T. Amies on their success at the recent Brisbane Exhibition, the former securing no less than four and the latter three prizes. After the ordinary business, Mr. H. Coop junr., gave an interesting demonstration, the subject being "Enlarging by Artificial Light". Mr. Coop first explained the uses of the various parts of the apparatus, afterwards giving practical demonstrations. The resulting enlargements were handed round to the members and many eulogistic remarks were passed regarding them. On account of the lantern demonstration to be given on Wednesday, October 2, by Rev. R.B. Massey, it was decided that a practical demonstration on the making of lantern slides will be given at the next meeting, on Wednesday, September 18. The president, who had the pleasure of an interview with the Queensland secretary of the Y.M.C.A. Snapshots from Home League, during a recent visit to Brisbane, announced the fact that the Warwick branch had despatched more snapshots to the boys at the front than any other branch in Queensland, and the secretary desired to convey to the members her best thanks for their efforts.

A meeting of the Warwick Camera Club was held at the club's rooms on Wednesday night. Despite the prevailing amount of illness there was a good roll up of members. A lantern demonstration was given by the Rev. R.B. Massey, who explained the principles, and component parts of the lantern. The demonstration proved very interesting, and was well received by the members present. After wards a lantern slide competition was held, over eighty slides made by the members being exhibited on the screen. Competition was keen, and judging consequently proved very difficult. Mr. J. Armitstead was appointed judge, and selected twelve of the best slides. These were again submitted to judgment, the members this time voting. The results placed Mrs. J.A. Armitstead, Mr. H. Palmer and Mr. T.G. Amies as the winners. The slides exhibited were of a high order and, being mostly local, great interest was taken in them. The prizes were given by Mr. J. Armitstead and Mr. H. Palmer. A vote of thanks to the Rev. R.B. Massey was passed for his able demonstration. In responding the Rev. R.B. A meeting of the Warwick Camera Club was held on Wednesday evening last, when Mr. A. Fletcher gave a demonstration on "The Toning of P.O.P. prints". There was a good attendance of members, and the practical way in which the demonstration was given proved of great value to the members present, tones ranging from a beautiful dark purple to a rich brown being obtained. The prints were afterwards inspected by some of the members, who voiced their approval and surprise at the beauty of the tones. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Fletcher for his instructive demonstration. Tlie secretary brought under the notice of the members the kind offer of the Sydney Photographic Club, who offered the loan of an interesting collection of photographs by some of the leading amateurs of Australia. It was decided to take advantage of the offer and if sufficient photographs were sent from Sydney to augment these by local work and hold an exhibition.

It was decided to hold no meetings until Wednesday, January 8th, 1919, when the competition for the best photograph of any victory celebration held in Warwick. will be judged.

CAMERA CLUB
MOVE FOR FORMATION
EXHIBITION OF PHOTOGRAPHS PLANNED BY ENTHUSIASTS

Three of Warwick's most ardent amateur photographers, Dr L.T. Lloyd, Mr L.B. Eastwell and Mr. W. Haines, are sponsoring a movement for the formation of a Warwick Camera Club, which incidentally is assured of the support of the Warwick Adult Education group.

As a stimulus to the formation of this club a special exhibition of amateur photographic work will be held at the premises of Mr Eastwell shortly, when about 100 photographs will be on display. They will include views of Europe taken by Dr Lloyd during a roving trip, child studies by Mr Eastwell, and color snapshots of city and district scenes by Mr. Haines.

This exhibition it is hoped will be the immediate point for enrollment of at least a dozen camera enthusiasts into the proposed club, names being recorded in a book at the exhibition.

Foremost aim of the club is the attainment of a higher amateur photographic standard by providing means and opportunities for teaching the finer points generally about camera work.

The photographs which will be on exhibition are of a high order and indicate what is actually possible by amateurs with the exercise of perhaps a little more care and patience than the average person with a camera.

The sponsors are confident that once the club is established the Adult Education authorities will help to create the desired enthusiasm amongst members by arranging for experts to come here and give lecture demonstrations on photography.

The present movement recalls the Camera Club which thrived in Warwick between 1913 and 1918, and which had at its peak a membership of 70. President of that club for several years was Mr. Armitstead, and Mr T. Amies was secretary.

Its object was the advancement of photography, and in this connection it conducted quite a number of snapshot outings and competitions. Photographs in such competitions were sent to the Kodak company in Brisbane for adjudication and comment. Each photo was merely numbered and carried no name. Points were awarded for choice of subject, composition, printing, mounting, and general technique, with a maximum of 20 for each of the five sections. The adjudication also contained advice helpful to the amateur in obtaining better photographs.

During the 1914-18 war two members of the Camera Club, Mr. Armitstead and Mrs Devine, each received certificates from the Governor-General for supplying some hundreds of snapshots sent to local troops through the YMCA.

These snapshots were of relatives of the troops, being taken locally and then sent by the relatives to the men in France and other war theatres.

In those days amateur photographers did not have the modern privilege of "same day printing" and forced in many instances to print and develop their own snaps, knew far more about photography generally than the amateur of to-day.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
FIRST ANNUAL MEETING
At the annual general meeting of the Warwick Camera Club the election of officers for the year resulted: Patron: Mr. J.D. Rowland; president, Dr. L.T. Lloyd; vice-president, Mr. L. Eastwell; secretary-treasurer, Mr. E.F. Morris; committee, Mrs Lloyd, Messrs J.T. Harrison, W. Keiseker, L. Gander and E. Hall.

The first annual report of the club was presented by the president. He deplored poor attendances at some of the meetings and outings, but recognized that it was, perhaps, better to see a small attendance of real enthusiasts than a large gathering of many not so keen.

The need for suggestions to assist the year's syllabus and constructive and destructive criticism of points was also stressed. The club would also like to hear more from beginners and others whose photographic problems could probably be solved by those more experienced members.

At this point, he said, the objects of the club could bear repeating: (1) To instruct members in what they want to know of photography in all its branches; (2) To exchange ideas and view each other's work; (3) To provide facilities not available to the general individual; (4) To arrange outings, competitions and other fixtures.

The club took over the responsibility of managing the photographic display at the recent Warwick Show; general feeling seems to be that this display was better than in previous years.

A balance sheet was presented and adopted by the meeting. Membership fee was fixed at 6/ per annum.

CAMERA CLUB COMPETITION FOR STUDENTS
At a recent meeting of the Warwick Camera Club, it was decided to donate a number of prizes to be competed for by students of various colleges in the district. Prize money will total open orders to the value of £3/11/6, with a first prize of £2/2/.

Conditions of the competition are:
(1) Open to boys and girls attending the various colleges in the district;
(2) open to all classes of photographic work;
(3) contact prints or enlargements accepted;
(4) the photograph must have been taken by the entrant, though processing can be by amateur or professional;
(5) the entrant's name and school must be clearly stated on the back of each print;
(6) a limit of four prints to each entrant.

The competition will close on September 30.

There is no entry fee. Prints may be left at the surgery of Dr. L.T. Lloyd, Grafton street, or L.B. Eastwell's Radio Shop, Palmerin street.

Keen interest in photography is being displayed by young people, and, as it is an excellent pastime, it is hoped by this competition to give them every encouragement.

With some it is sure to become a lifelong hobby, perhaps leading to an eminence in the photographic world attained by Australians John Eaton in landscape work or the late Dr. Julian Smith in portraiture.

WARWICK SCENE IN PHOTOGRAPHIC SALON AT CANBERRA
Two pictures taken by a Warwick amateur photographer have been accepted for display at the Jubilee Salon at Canberra this month.

The Warwick photographer is Dr. Lee Tyndale Lloyd. He submitted four prints to the Canberra Photographic Society, which is staging the salon as part of the Commonwealth Jubilee celebrations this year.

One of the two prints accepted by the panel of judges has a local background and is entitled "Old Stalwart".

It is a photo of a gum tree at Deuchar Creek about half a mile from the northern end of Dragon Street, and was taken by Dr. Lloyd during a Warwick Camera Club excursion.

The other print, entitled "Sun worship" was photographed by him during his recent trip to Central Australia. The actual setting is Cicad Gorge in the McDonnell Ranges, and the subject is two ghost gums, strangely sunlit and shown against a dark background of shadowed cliffs.

The exhibition of photographic art will be held in Canberra from January 24 to January 31, and comprises a collection of 200 approximately 750 received from all parts of the Commonwealth and overseas.

The secretary of the Canberra committee organizing the Jubilee Salon (Mr. A.C. Redpath) in notifying Dr. Lloyd that the panel of judges had accepted two of his prints, stated that the panel had expressed the opinion that the standard was very high and it congratulated him on the quality of his work.

The public exhibition will be at the 2CA radio auditorium in Canberra, and visitors are assured of a veritable photographic feast as the salon will be supplemented by a showing of the Department of the Interior's fine group "Meet Your Fellow Australians".

The three judges who made the selections for the salon were Messrs. Keast Burke, C.S. Christian and C.B. Young. Prints submitted by Dr. Lloyd were 12 x 16 inches and mounted.

Dr. Lloyd is one of Warwick's most enthusiastic amateur photographers, who has won notable successes in various parts of Australia, including at the big photographic exhibition in Maitland and at the Sydney University International where he has won awards on two successive years, including a first. Photography is one of his several hobbies, and he always develops his own negatives.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
CAMERA CLUB REFORMED
The Warwick Camera Club, which went into recess several years ago, is being reformed under the auspices of the Board of Adult Education. Membership will be free. Members do not need to be an expert or even a moderately proficient photographer, or to own an expensive camera.

All they need is an interest in photography, coupled with willingness to learn.

Initially the club will be conducted on a complete beginner basis.

Expert instructors, professional workers, will be in attendance, and their simple lectures will be enlivened by practical demonstrations of simple processing and avoidance of common faults.

The first meeting since formal re-activation of the club will be held in the supper room of the Warwick Town Hall this evening, and on the first Friday in every month thereafter.

WARWICK CAMERA CLUB
Most people like to take snapshots, and with the approach of the summer more interest in the use of cameras will come. In the Warwick Town Hall Supper Room to night at 8 the Warwick Camera Club, which meets monthly under the auspices of the Board of Adult Education, will have a meeting at which members will check their cameras and discuss methods of getting better snapshots this summer.

Persons wishing to attend this meeting should bring along their cameras and check them with the club members. Membership of the club is free to all the public as is the case with all adult education activities.
