A new camera club has recently been formed in Hobart to cater for both beginners and advanced workers. The office-bearers are: President, Mr. J. Dowling; Vice-Presidents, Messrs. Jely and C. Flaws; Secretary, Mr. C.L. Hughes; Treasurer, Miss O. Viney; Committee, Messrs. R. Bhai, R. Wilson and F. Mann.

At the start we propose to hold meetings weekly at the Y.M.C.A. Hobart and the following series of lectures for the first six weeks has been arranged:
1. How the Camera Works, Mr. C. Flaws;
2. Films and Filters, Mr. J. Dowling;
3. Developers, Mr. C.L. Hughes;
4. Printing, Mr. Jely;
5. How to Improve Your Pictures, Mr. Maddocks;
6. Questions and Answers.

Many of your Sydney readers will no doubt remember our Mr. C.L. Hughes as a keen miniature worker in Sydney in pre-war days.

Visitors are particularly welcome. A darkroom is available and the club has commenced with more than 20 members.

The club is going along nicely. We have had some very interesting lectures by well known workers, particularly a talk on Improving your Pictures by Mr. A.B. Maddock. With the co-operation of Messrs. Kodak Ltd., we have screened the Harold Cazneaux slides and commentary and the Flexichrome Process film.

On 7th September, the club held its first Ladies Night, when we screened "The A.P.-R. Fifty-Six Best" which were very well received. This night was a great success and included social entertainment arranged by Barbara Vince, the Club’s Librarian.

The construction of the darkroom is complete and this is now available to members. On 2nd November, the Club is holding its first Color Competition and on 14th December, the Annual Dinner.

The club held its first Color Competition on 2nd November, thirty-six slides being presented. The judging was by Mr. Ralph Johnstone, of the Southern Tasmanian Club, and the results were: 1, J. Dowling, Distant Landscape; 2, C.L. Hughes, Camping; 3, Miss O. Viney, Restaurant in Sydney; HC, J. Chooi, St. David’s Park, Hobart.

On 9th November, Mr. Roberts gave an extremely interesting talk “How I Mount Prints for Exhibition”. This was very well received and Mr. Roberts was literally bombarded with questions.

At the Annual General Meeting and Election of Officers the sitting officers were re-elected for a further period of twelve months.

We are having a Print of the Year and a Color Transparency of the Year Competition at the Annual Get-Together on 15th December. The prints will be judged by Mr. Allan Maddock and the transparencies by Mr. G.C. Cramp.

On 15th February, Mr. Howell Walker, of the National Geographic Society, who is in Tasmania writing a story of the island and making pictures for the National Geographic Magazine, and covering the Royal Visit, gave a very interesting talk on The work of National Geographic Society Field Men.

A large audience listened with rapt attention for more than an hour to what was one of the finest talks given in Hobart for a long time. Mr. Walker answered many questions at the end of his lecture. The committee entertained Mr. and Mrs. Walker after the meeting.

On 12th April, the club held a special meeting to hear that very popular and capable lecturer, Mr. C. Roberts, who gave a talk on Character Studies with many practical demonstrations.

The meeting was very well attended and members had a grand time clicking their shutters, with Mr. Roberts showing them the finer points of character work.
