Mr. Kelly kindly consented to judge negatives sent in by members for competition. The following was the result: Mr. Crook 1st, Mr. J.H. Staite 2nd, Mr. Stringer 3rd.

YOUNG CAMERA CLUB
Two meetings of the Young Camera Club have been held this month, the first on December 1. Mr. J.J. Kelly occupied the chair. On the resolution of Mr. Crook and seconded by Mr. Probert, the rule stating that meetings be held on first Friday in the month was rescinded. Mr. Crook then proposed that meetings be held twice in each month, meaning every other Friday as set down on the Syllabus. This was agreed to. The Syllabus presented by the secretary was then discussed and after some little alterations it was proposed that Syllabus now in hand be used, but that should any member wish to move an amendment, he be empowered to do so. The resolution was carried.

For the competition in which Mr. J.J. Kelly was judge, five prints were sent in. The following secured places:
Mr. STRINGER, 1; Mr. P.H. STAITE, 2; Mr. SINCLAIR, 3.

The competition for next meeting was arranged as the best print of City Bank on P.O.P. After a discussion on different prints the meeting closed.

The second meeting was held at Club Rooms on Friday, 15th December, twelve members being present. In the absence of the presidents, Mr. N. Crook took the chair. It was proposed by Mr. Staite that the meeting to be held on 29th December, should lapse owing to holidays, and the resolution was carried.

The next meeting is to be held on 12th January 1906, and competition for this was arranged, best landscape within a radius of 15 miles of Young, to be produced on P.O.P. Mr. Staite also promised to give a demonstration of printing on bromide from wet negative at the next meeting.

The pictures for competition were of the City Bank, Mr. J.J. Kelly was judge, and his award was:
Mr. SINCLAIR, 1; Mr. STAITE, 2; Mr. CROOK, 3.

After a debate on subjects in connection with photography, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. Crook for the able manner in which he conducted the meeting and the proceedings terminated,

YOUNG CAMERA CLUB
On Wednesday afternoon last, under management of a committee of the Young Camera Club, a picnic was held, the site selected being the banks of Burrangong Creek at the bridge, Grenfell-road, about eight miles from town. The party consisted of over 30 members and guests, as nearly as possible evenly divided as to sexes. The picnickers were driven out in Mr. Bernie's mammoth coach, equal to 40 passengers. Arriving at the bridge a camp was formed and refreshments taken of and they were there in plentitude, cameras were brought into requisition the iron bridge and surroundings taken and retaken from every possible point of view. Those who were not provided with cameras amused themselves in various ways, a very pleasant outing resulting, the party returning at about 9pm. Several of the amateurs were engaged later on "developing", as we believe it is called. However, the club is a great success and provides a most pleasant and intellectual occupation. Mr. J.J. Kelly, our local photographer, and Mr. Staite, an advanced amateur, direct the studios. We have seen quite a number of excellent pictures, the work of our amateurs. It is it pleasurable and not expensive pastime, and, as such, we commend it to our young friends.

YOUNG CAMERA CLUB
The Young Camera Club held its usual fortnightly meeting at their Club room on Friday evening last. Mr. Kelly in the chair, and a good number of members present. After the usual business, Mr. Kelly said he had much pleasure in presenting Mr. Staite with a silver medal, suitably inscribed, for obtaining highest marks in competitions for the last half year. Mr. Staite returned thanks. Mr. Kelly said the next business was judging the competition three best post cards taken on Empire Day, for which Mr. P. Graton scored 1st; Mr. Sinclair, 2nd ; and Mister H. Reynolds, 3rd. The competition for next night is best negative, any subject, developed at the room. The judging will also take place the same night for the best photograph of Messrs. White and Sinclair's store, the prizes, 1st and 2nd, given by those gentlemen. The club will hold its next meeting on Wednesday 13th June, commencing at 8pm, when we hope all members will attend.

The members handed in their entries for that night's competition, three best lantern slides, the winners:

This proved a very interesting competition, seven or eight competing. Mr. Kelly very kindly gave the club the use of his lantern. Altogether some 30 slides were run through, some really good pictures shown.

YOUNG CAMERA CLUB
FINE ART EXHIBITION
During next week a schedule of prizes to be offered for competition at a Fine Art Exhibition, to be held in the Town Hall, Young, 23rd and 24th January 1907, will be in circulation and copies distributed broadcast, not only through adjacent towns but in Sydney.

The exhibition will be held under, the auspices of the Young Camera Club and in view of the great interest that has been developed in the science of photography which enables us to grasp the shadow ere the substance fades, we are sure our local amateurs will be commended for thus issuing a friendly challenge to amateurs of other districts.

It is only by comparison in competition that defects can be detected and corrected. This is the spirit actuating the Young Camera Club in their somewhat bold venture. We are pleased to know their confidence will not be disappointed, as up to date the prizes in money and trophies amount to nearly £50, contributed not only by residents of the town and district, but from Sydney.

The Young Camera Club is but in its infancy. When started, less than twelve months ago, it numbered about 15 members, and has ever since been increasing in membership. The meetings are held fortnightly in the School of Arts, great enthusiasm evinced. The society is much indebted to Mr. J.J. Kelly, our local artist photographer, for generous and unselfish services in educating the amateurs not only by lectures but by demonstrations in lantern slides and in other ways most willingly imparting the fruits of a long experience. To those likely to be affected with the camera craze, the present opportunity should be availed of.

The Exhibition of January next will include displays of photographs and enlargements, local industrial views, comic and otherwise ; stereoscopic views and lantern slides. One item of interest will be a photo of the Burrangong dredge, drawn by 60 bullocks in transit to Wombat, where the Deep Leads Company have decided to replace it. Other prizes are offered for drawings, paintings, and art needlework, entrance fee for all 10 per cent, on amount of first prize.

The exhibition will be opened on Wednesday 23rd January 1907, by the Mayor, Mr. John Learmont, and will conclude on the following Thursday evening. During both evenings of the exhibition a program, consisting of illustrated recitations, songs, limelight views of local interest, and other items will be given, details issued later on.

Some of the trophies presented will be on view in Messrs. White and Sinclair's window, and it is to be hoped that all interested in photography, not necessarily members of the club, will do their utmost to make the exhibition of 1907 a success.

Any information will be gladly given on application to the Hon.Secretary, Mr. W. Sinclair.

YOUNG CAMERA CLUB
PHOTOGRAPHIC DEMONSTRATION
As announced in our issue of the 12th June, Mr. Beauchamp, representing Messrs. Baker and Rouse, gave a photographic demonstration in the Phoenix Room, Town Hall, on Wednesday evening last, the attendance being only fair considering the enthusiasm shown in photography at Young. Mr. Kelly, President of the Young Camera Club, occupied the chair, and, in introducing Mr. Beauchamp, said although there were a number of photographic firms in Sydney who gave demonstrations, none of them went outside their own studios to do so, and he considered Young was very fortunate in bring favored with a representative of Messrs. Baker and Rouse to give them a free practical demonstration.

However, he hoped those present would benefit by what Mr. Beauchamp showed them, and he would call upon that gentleman to deliver his lecture. Mr. Beauchamp, upon rising, was received with applause, said the first thing he would explain was about film negatives. After some explanations as to the quality of films of the past and those of the present time, Mr. Beauchamp took some prints off several negatives of different densities, all of which gave excellent results, different classes of paper being used and exposures varied. After this the lecturer showed how to develop films he had exposed that afternoon, six in all being developed in the developing tank, including St. Mary's Church, Court House, Public School, not one proving a failure, although the day was very dull. The lecture throughout was very instructive, with the exception of a few boys at the back who had no interest in photography and should have been asked to leave, the lecturer kept his audience interested. A vote of thanks to Mr. Beauchamp terminated the meeting.
