The Blue Mountains Photography Group was formed on the 25th May 1956 under the name of Springwood and District Camera Club.

The original Office Bearers were: President, A.E. Searle; Vice President, E.A. Oxley, Hon Secretary, Miss Langhorne; Assistant Secretary, M. Davies; Treasurer, D. Hill; and Publicity Officer, Charlie O’Neill.

The first President was Allan E. Searle who was a celebrated Historical writer.

SPRINGWOOD AND DISTRICT CAMERA CLUB
The Autumn color competition held in the clubroom, attracted 23 entries. Following members were successful: Mr. A. Shirlow 1, Mr. H. Searle 2, Miss Langhorne 3. Two honorable mentions, both to Mr. M. Davies.

At the conclusion of competition individual members showed color slides, and arrangements were made for the trip to Burragorang Valley.

Next meeting will be held on July 4th, when an open black and white competition will be held. Visitors and new members contact Miss Langhorne at Oxleys Pharmacy, Springwood.




21st November 1958 - Miss Beverley Fiedler joined.

3rd November 1960 – Nepean Times had the following: The Nepean Summer Festival which will be officially opened on the 10th December 1960, will have a display of photographs from the following Camera Clubs: Katoomba, Springwood, Manly, Petersham, Marrickville, Mosman, Double Bay and a YMCA club.

1961 – At the Annual General Meeting Keith Musgrave AFIAP was elected to the position of President which he held for 26 years, consecutively.

1963 – Changed name to Springwood Camera Club.

1963 the Northern Suburbs Camera Club (now Northside Creative Photography) visited with a display of prints for discussion and social contact. It is obvious that Northern Suburbs Camera Club prints were highly regarded.

1964 – Joining fee was ₤0.10.0 and the Annual Fee was ₤1.0.0 which included a Club badge.

1964 - Amended the Constitution, paragraph 5 to read as follows; Office bearers shall be – President, Vice President, Hon Secretary, Assistant Hon Secretary, Hon Treasurer, Social Secretary (Hostess), 3 Committee, to be elected at the AGM.

1966 – Introduction of the MUSGRAVE MERIT AWARD this award covers the highest average placings awarded by the evening three judges for unplaced entries, covering 13 Monochrome and 12 Color competitions. Also embracing consistent competition entry, of at least two thirds of the years syllabus, those also not eligible are first, second and third in Color and first in Monochrome prints Trophy awards.

1968 - Springwood was awarded a Pennant for being a Finalist in the Federation of Camera Clubs NSW Metro Zone KO Competition.

1970 – "This Camera Club began because of the conviction of a few people that there was sufficient interest in the Springwood District to justify the formation of an organization to develop and encourage an interest in photography". Reproduced from the "Mountain Gazette" on the 5th August 1970.

31st March 1973 - Beverley Fiedler gained a Certificate of Merit in the Pictorial section of the Federation of Camera Clubs NSW Inter-Club competition.

1974 - The FIRST Annual (Newsletter) was produced by David Templeton.

1975 - Affiliated to the Federation of Camera Clubs NSW

1976 – At the Christmas Dinner which was held at the Swiss Inn at Valley Heights the President Mr Keith Musgrave was installed in a Rocking Chair with "Keith" painted in gold letters by Bruce Jones.

1978 - Joining fee $2, Annual fee $6

1978 - Constitution amended to allow for 2 Vice Presidents.

27th July 1979 - for all competitions 3 Slides per member instead of the 2 previously allowed.

1980 - Joining fee $2, Annual fee $10 including supper.
7th and 8th November 1980 - Photographic show conducted similar to an Art Exhibition, with an Opening Night with Ian Maurice from 2KA Radio Station.

1981 Joining fee $2, Annual fee $10 including supper.

3rd and 4th April 1981 - Photographic show (Photographs were For Sale) and display of Historic and Modern Photographic equipment.

17th July 1981 - Special General Meeting to amend the Constitution, to allow the Committee to appoint a Member of the Club to Life Membership.

1st October 1981 - changed meeting place from the Fire Brigade Hall to the Masonic Lodge in Macquarie Road, Springwood.

March 1982 - rejoined the Federation of Camera Clubs NSW.

1st April 1982 - Miss Glad Hood had a display of old Photographs including some Daguerrotypes and Photographic equipment.

6th May 1982 - Hugh Spiers (Artist) presented a talk on "Photography – Painting – Art".

29 July 1982 - Special General Meeting the Club changed the name to the Springwood Photographic Society.

The logo for the “Springwood Photographic Society” was designed by David Templeton. The design is a graphical representation of light thru a prism. David presented 2 designs around the light thru a prism, with a total of 16 different color variations.

1982 - Joining fee $2, Annual fee $12 including supper.

30th April 1983 – hosted the Federation of Camera Clubs NSW Inter-Club

The Mayor of the Blue Mountains Council – Peter Quirk presented a plaque to the Club.

Beverley Fiedler presented a lecture on "Wildflowers of the Blue Mountains".

The Print Perpetual trophy was donated by Kerry's Motors.

1984  – Campbelltown Camera Club conducted an Inter-Club between Berrima District, Campbelltown, Henry Lawson, Springwood and Wollongong clubs. Keith Musgrave gained 1st in Color prints and Dorothy Munro gained a Certificate of Merit in Color slides.

2nd April 2005 – Exhibition of current members work, displayed in the Presbyterian Church Hall, Macquarie Road, Springwood.

There were 32 Monochrome, 45 Color, 33 Small and 14 Freestyle prints on display.

Peoples Choice – Small print "Mornings Wonder" by Ruth Price: Monochrome "On His Own" by Russell Kirkland: Color print "Homestead" by John Skarratt: Overall People's Choice "Platinum Lillies" by Peter Mills.

2006 50th Anniversary: with an excellent exhibition of members work, which was successfully organized by Mr Ted Szafraniec.

2008 FCC Inter-Club - 1st (small club) Monochrome

14th July 2010 – Prue Angell passed away due to an accident whilst traveling in Serbia.

2013 INTERCLUB

HOSTED BY THE

UPPER BLUE MOUNTAINS CAMERA CLUB



28th July 2013 - the Upper Blue Mountains Camera Club hosted a successful Inter-club with the Blacktown City Photographic Club and the Blue Mountains Photography Group

There was 90 images on display, 30 from each Group, in the following categories - Color prints, Monochrome prints and Projected Images.

Louise Mathews from the Upper Blue Mountains Camera Club gained the award for the Best Monochrome print;
Chris Wilson from the Upper Blue Mountains Camera Club gained the award for the Best Color print;
Phil Marshall from the Blacktown City Photographic Club gained the award for the Best Projected Image.


The Upper Blue Mountains Camera Club won the Inter-club by a small margin.
