BOB BRITCHER  AFIAP, AAPS, PSQA

With the need to know more I joined my first Camera Club – Dalby Photographic Society - in the late 60s or early 70s where the influence of Senior Members of the Club and people such as Graham Burstow of Toowoomba enthused my endeavors to improve.

After moving to Ipswich I joined the Ipswich Photography Society and a Brisbane Club, where I came to the attention of the Photographic Society of Queensland Judges Executive and in 1980 became an Accredited Photographic Society of Queensland Judge.

From the mid 70s till 2000 I had my own part time Wedding and Portrait Business and through contact with professionals in that industry my skills and knowledge advanced in leaps and bounds. Also since the mid 70s I have competed in National and International Salons.

After retiring from the work force in 2009, I was an Australia Post Employee since leaving school in the early 60s. I became more involved in other Photographic Associations in the Brisbane Area while still a Member of the Ipswich Photography Society of which I am now a Life Member.

Through the encouragement of my peers I used the points from Exhibition successes over the years to apply for the Honors I now have. I should use the points that weren’t used then to get some of the higher honors but have procrastinated for the time being.

When asked what I like to photograph, initially my answer used to be "Nature" ... When asked now my reply is "Anything with Good Lighting – Good Lighting depends on the Subject and Effect one is trying to achieve".

FRAN CROSS  AAPS, PSQA

Fran has been taking photos since she was 8 years old, using the ubiquitous Box Brownie. Frances graduated to Nikon when her father-in-law gave her a Nikkormat and a few old lenses. She still uses all Nikon gear.

Photography has always been part of her family. In the late 1800’s her great grandmother recorded images, many of family, on glass plates.

Fran is a Registered Nurse and worked to enable her to indulge her two passions, photography and travel, both of which were undertaken with enthusiasm.

Fran first foray into Camera Clubs was in Canberra during 1984, where she was a member of Canberra Photographic Society for 14 years. Fran went to New Zealand for 2 years and joined the Christchurch Photographic Society. We returned to Australia and retired in Queensland where she joined the Hervey Bay Photography Club. Fran spent time on the committee from 2007 to 2013 and was President from 2007 to 2010. She has entered a few Internationals and Nationals, receiving some acceptances.

Her images are eclectic and looks for different, out of the box subjects but rarely shoot portraits or nature. She enjoys manipulating images with Photoshop and other plugins.

Fran is an Accredited Judge with the Photographic Society of Queensland.

Fran has judged for many clubs across Queensland, mostly on-line but occasionally takes a trip to country centres to meet local Camera Club members. Recently judged a “challenge” between a Queensland camera club and a camera club from England. She has also been part of teams judging Queensland Interclub competitions.

Fran is one of four photographers who hold Australian Photographic Society Honors, who have formed a small interest group of less experienced photographers whom they teach and encourage. This is very rewarding - no rules, no committee, no fees. Just friends with a common goal, to foster photographic excellence.

I am the Australian Ambassador for the Austrian Super Circuit, God Father to the German Mega Circuit, Australian Delegate for Global Photographic Union. I have been an accredited judge with the Photographic Society of Queensland since 1986. My first Camera Clubs were in Sydney – approx. 1955, I joined the Postal Institute Camera Club which met on the top floor of the G.P.O. and then in 1960, joined the N.S.W. Leagues Club Camera Club. I was a member of both until 1972 when we moved to Queensland. Later, I joined Mount Gravatt Photographic Society in 1981 and am still an active member today.

I am a very keen international exhibitor and have been overseas judging in the Trierenberg Super Circuit in Austria 7 times, also the German Mega in 2013 and Maitland International Salon of Photography on 1 occasion, have been judging in numerous Nationals, club and inter-club events on many occasions. The Vice Chairman for the APSCON Conference 2010 held in Roma, co-ordinate the Australian International Group of Exhibitors which has grown since 1988, the chairman of the Queensland International Digital Circuit.

The equipment I use now is Nikon D800, recently acquired Sony 5100 mirror less digital with 2 lenses. I still have Nikon film bodies and a wide assortment of lens. I did progress to copying my own slides and processing them. I still participate in both slide and print folios.

Photography today is more PHOTO ART, this trend is becoming more evident each time I judge overseas. I am from the OLD SCHOOL; more traditional imaging. I do use Light Room for basic adjustments.
